Description:

Catch the thrill of your lifetime battling trout and salmon on Lake Michigan in Illinois aboard the After U II Fishing Charters!

From April to October, the Illinois section of Lake Michigan provides some of the biggest angling challenges in the world and we know where to find them. Beginning in the spring, young, scrappy Coho Salmon provide exciting early-season charter fishing.

By June, action increases as the Coho are joined by Chinook Salmon (Kings), Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, and Brown Trout. Throughout the summer, these fighters can range in size form five to 25 pounds. Leading to an exciting day of charter fishing on Lake Michigan.

And in September, when the "Kings" make their spawning run, mammoths tipping the scales at 40 pounds have been taken. Charter fishing for Coho, King Chinook Salmon, Brown Trout, Rainbow and Lake Trout starts in April and continues through November.

If you're ready for the best fishing the Illinois area of Lake Michigan can offer, the After U II Charter fishing boat is waiting for you at Northpoint Marina in Wintrop Harbor!

They don’t call Lake Michigan one of the “Great Lakes” for nothing! The waters are crisp, the views are spectacular, and the fishing is out of this world!

Your Chicago Fishing Excursion offers more than an exciting tour of Lake Michigan fishing hot spots – it’s a chance to gather your family members or friends to share in the experience of catching some of the Midwest’s best fish.

Fishing Reports

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 08.29.12

The King Salmon are moving in to spawn.  The next two weeks should be great.  We'll start working the "hill" every morning and evening.     Capt Joe Penar afteruiicharters.com  ...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 08.23.12

The fishing has picked up as the water cools.  We're doing well about five miles off shore working from 75 to 100 feet down.  You can expect a mixed bag of Chinook, Lake Trout, Rainbow and Coho.     See ya on the water or better yet give us a call for the best time on Lake Michigan.   Capt Joe Penar afteruiicharters.com  ...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 08.14.12

Warm water moved into the area last week and really slowed down the fishing.  That said we are moving into the spawning season and the fish will start schooling up.  With water temps returning to normal the action will be spectacular.  Look for some hot bites from 15 to 20 pound Kings over the next two weeks.   See ya on the water,   Capt Joe Penar afteruiicharters.com    ...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 08.08.12

Things have slowed down this past week as warm water moved into the area.  In fact we are fishing in waters as warm as 77 degrees.  This is more like the ocean temperatures off Florida then the cold water fishery of Lake Michigan.  Will this warm water last?  Nope.  All we need is a few days of offshore winds to move the warm water our and bring the cooler water and the fish back in.    Are we getting skunked.  Heck no.  Last trip we retu...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 07.17.12

Warm water moved in this past week which slowed things up a bit.  Of course, slow this year is still great by most standards.  We're getting a mixed bag including King Salmon in the mid teens.  The Coho and Rainbow are still strong and keeping us busy in 80 to 100 feet of water.   Capt Joe Penar afteruiicharters.com   Lake Michigan Fishing is a Great Way To Entertain Friends and Business Associates Call Now to Book Your Date!...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 07.10.12

It's been super out on the BIG LAKE.  We've been working from 80 to 100 feet of water (about 3 miles out) and taking a nice mix of Salmon and Trout.  For example I was out Tuesday night and we were 15 for 25 with three nice Chinook over 15 pounds.  Then on Wednesday morning we returned to the docks with 11 nice fish.  Five of the 11 were Steelhead (Rainbow) over 10 pounds.  These were all half day trips with steady action.     See ya on the...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 09.21.11

They are still biting but not for me. I'm not sure if anyone remembers but about this time of year we put the After U II into winter storage, forget about Salmon fishing and start getting ready to move south for the winter. Within the next few weeks we will relocate to the Florida Keys to start hunting for Wahoo, Kings, Sails, Dorado etc. on the After U. I'll start sending reports from the ocean soon. Until then.....       Capt Joe Penar afteruiicharters.com  ...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 09.16.11

The winds finally came down last week and the fleet ventured out. No one knew where the fish were after almost a week of high winds and rough seas. Surprise, surprise. They were right where we left them in around 160 feet of water. Not only that but they attacked the lures like they hadn't eaten in a week. Most charter boats arrived back at the dock with close to limit catches of Chinook (King Salmon) in the 15 pound class, Rainbows and a few Lake Trout for good measure.     &#...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 09.09.11

The winds started last Saturday blowing out of the Northeast at 25. Waves crashed over the breakwalls. Waves built to almost 9 feet. Everyone stayed in port waiting for better weather. We're still waiting!!!     That said we are in prime King Salmon fishing season and as soon as the winds come down we expect to be arriving at the docks with 20 to 30 pound Chinook Salmon.   After U II Fishing Charters    www.afteruiicharters.com    ...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 07.27.11

As predicted last week the King Salmon and Rainbows would be showing up any time. Well they did. Last weekend we enjoyed fantastic Rainbow/Steelhead fishing within a couple of miles from shore. How good? Most of the boats were returning to the docks with 10 to 15 fish on a half day trip with most of the fish being Steelhead. These fish are the jumpers of the lake. You can count on seeing them as soon as they hit as they rocket skyward. In addition the fish last weekend were mostly over 10 poun...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 07.21.11

Things have slowed down this week as the Coho have started moving out to return to their spawning streams. This usually occurs about this time of year. Is that bad? Not necessarily as everyone knows that the mature King Salmon will be showing up any time. We will just be trading 7 and 8 pound fish for 15 or 20 pound fish. Not a bad trade. Additionally we will start to see larger catches of Rainbow and Lake Trout as they become more active and migrate into our area.      ...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 08.31.10

We are still putting quite a few fish in the box on every trip. The Coho are still around but they should soon be leaving to begin their spawning run. Will that hurt our fishing? Not at all. The Rainbow/Steelhead are in and being taken every trip up to 20 pounds. Additionally the Chinook/King Salmon fishing will be getting better every day as they move closer to shore getting ready for their spawning season which always starts later than the Coho. Oh and don't forget the Lake Trout population...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 08.18.10

The fishing on the big lake is still strong. We are bringing in 10 to 20 fish every trip with a mixed bag of Chinook, Coho, Lake Trout and Rainbow's. These fish have been about 7 miles out and are favoring spoons over dodgers and flies.   If you are thinking about getting out, now is the time. In a few weeks he Coho will be leaving and the Kings will be moving in to spawn.       After U II Charters   Captain Joe Penar Web Site: http://www.afteruiic...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 08.09.10

The action has really been great for the past month. In fact it's so good you can pick out what type of fish you want. For example if you want Rainbows (Steelhead) or Coho your captain will head out to deeper water. On the other hand if you want to catch the larger pre spawn Kings (Chinook) we are fishing the "hill" closer to shore. In either event the name of the game is to have fun. That's really what the charter is all about anyway. Isn't it??     After U II Charte...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 06.01.10

They are still biting but things have slowed down. Of course everything is relative. When things are slow on Lake Michigan the same actions somewhere else would be considered wonderful. The Coho are our go to fish this time of year and they aren't disappointing anyone. Most of the boats are returning to the dock with an average of 15 fish. Some of they guys that are getting an really early start are even doing better but my anglers don't seem to like leaving the dock at 5 AM and are willing to...

Lake Michigan Fishing Report 05.26.10

I'm back and chartering for Salmon and Trout out of North Point Marina on the Illinois/Wisconsin border.   In May our action is usually the fastest of the year and this spring is no different.   The action is about two miles off shore in approximately 150 feet of water. What kind of action? Lots of Coho Salmon up to 5 pounds with quite a few Chinook Salmon up to 15 pounds. Lots of smiles when we return to the docks lately.       Capt Joe Penar ...
