Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands Fishing Report 05.21.12

I had a great day guiding Al Bunch from American Flyfishing Company, and friends Ray and Fred from California. They were on Florida flyfishing odyssey having fished the previous 13 days and some nights! We found small tarpon rolling 20 feet from the kayak launch spot! It some fly switches before we found a fly they would eat, but managed to land 6 small tarpon and a bunch of others we put in the air or missed. The water was flat calm so it was pretty neat seeing so many tarpon r...

Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands Fishing Report 05.08.12

I had a productive and fun day flyfishing the Everglades with Peter Huizinga from Michigan on Saturday. Initially, the snook seemed to have lockjaw but as the tide started moving we got some smaller snook, hooked one big one that broke his line, several gar, and two small tarpon. Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands Fishing Report 04.18.12

Had a good afternoon trip for peacock bass today, 4/16/12 ,with Paul Ambrose from South Carolina. We got a late start and missed the best bite but Paul was able to catch a few smaller peacocks, a mayan cichlid, and a couple of  largemouth bass. He had a big one eat his fly but didn't get enough of a hookset. We casted to rolling baby tarpon but they didn't want to play. We were fishing in the eastern Everglades near Miami,Fl.   Tight lines,   J...

Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands Fishing Report 03.06.12

The Peacock Bass fishing has been outstanding this winter. We never got any extended cold fronts so the fish are actively feeding. Small tarpon and snook have also been very active early and late in the day. Jim Dussias-305-766-2926  ...

Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands Fishing Report 07.20.11

Lots of juvenile tarpon have shown up in the Everglades. Also seeing some bigger than average ones, 10-15 lbs.     Trevor Reynolds from Tulsa jumped numerous tarpon and managed to land one about four pounds.   He also landed some average sized snook,as well. All done on flyrod via kayak.   Tight lines,   Jim Dussias      ...

Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands Fishing Report 01.26.11

I had an excellent trip last weekend with regular client Dr. Thomas Su.     He caught a nice snook that was crashing bait in shallow water.   We also got some bass up to 3 lbs., mayan cichlids, gar, and one small tarpon.   Oasis Angling Adventures, Inc. 305-766-2926 jdussia1@earthlink.net        ...

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 11.04.10

I had a great day Monday fishing with regular client Dr Bernie Grunstra. Bern caught a lot of fish(20?) including several in the 2-4 lb range(lost a giant, too).     The fish were very aggressive, leaving wakes as they chased the fly.     Oasis Angling Adventures, Inc. 305-766-2926 jdussia1@earthlink.net   www.hookandrod.com/guidesdetail.asp?id=75  ...

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 09.29.10

The small tarpon have shown up again with the recent heavy rains. Small tarpon from 5-30 lbs are rolling and feeding near canal locks, drainage pipes, etc. The heavy current really gets them in feeding mode with all of the concentrated baitfish. Fishing should be great over the next week Oasis Angling Adventures, Inc. 305-766-2926...

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 08.04.10

I took my son(age 6) fishing yesterday and he landed two nice mayan cichlids on a 4 weight fly rod. He missed a couple of peacock bass, as well. If you haven't caught a mayan cichlid before , they are like bluegills on steroids. I would put their fighting ability (pound for pound) against any freshwater fish and most saltwater fish.

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 07.29.10

The bass and peacock bass bite continues to be good. Thr largemouths are taking topwater flies and lures early and late. The peacock bass are post-spawn and are actively cruising shorelines looking for bait pods.

Miami Airport Lakes & Canals Fishing Report 07.22.10

Caught several largemouth bass on poppers fishing around lily pads before dark. Nothing big but fun sized fish and on topwater is hard to beat.           Oasis Angling Adventures, Inc. 305-766-2926 jdussia1@earthlink.net  ...

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 06.21.10

Lots of tarpon and peacock bass around taking advantage of the water(and bait)being drained through the flood gates. It's mixed bag fishing with largemouth bass, mayan cichlids, gar, and mudfish and others. Aggressive peacock bass are feeding right through the heat of the day.

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 06.15.10

RAIN! I love it. The flood gates are open and the freshwater tarpon have heard the ringing of the dinner bell. They line up like trout facing upstream waiting to attack unsupecting baitfish. They can be challenging at times, but I have cracked the code and have found a fly they'll eat. Peacock bass, largemouth, jaguar guapote, and mayan cichlids are also in the mix, including some world class Florida gar....

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 06.02.10

The peacock bass fishing continues to be red hot. All of the exotic fish such as; mayan cichlids and oscars are also biting. Largemouth bass and bluegill are also in the mix. Tha bass especially are crashing "rain bait" near the shorelines of the canals.

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 05.18.10

The Peacock bass fishing has been excellent lately, actually as good as I've ever seen it.There are a lot of fish spawning but also a lot just cruising looking for bait fish. This is topwater time for sure. I've seen many largemouth bass in the mix, too, as well as an odd tarpon or snook. This is the best time to catch a trophy Peacock Bass. Call Capt. Jim 305 766-2926

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 04.28.10

I had some excellent fishing for peacock bass this past weekend. I found some fish cruising the banks near some downed trees and caught several. Also caught a nice spawning one about 3 lbs.He literally destroyed a clouser fly cast into the spawning bed.

Miami-Dade Canals Fishing Report 04.20.10

I found a new spot loaded with peacock bass this past weekend. I spotted one of the biggest peacock bass I've ever seen around some lily pads. I tied on my favorite yellow deer hair popper and started casting to it, it would follow but not eat it. On about the fifth try a different peacock exploded on it(about 2 lbs), after getting a picture and releasing it, I caught its twin and lost a nice largemouth bass. After that I left the area not wanting to "sore lip" them all....
