Above Greg Garfinkle with a nice redfish. As you can see from his smile Greg and his mom had a great day, he got his west coast slam and then some. Nice trout!Greg with one of several snook, water temperatures this week will get more of these guys active, everything we caught was on live shrimp. Greg didn”t st...

Fishing report for the week ending 12/15/2011 Top-water plug action has been excellent, this fatty was just under 14 lbs. (it swallowed that skitterwalk) A warmer than normal December is making for some great fishing around Sanibel and San Carlos Bay despite the windy conditions. To go along with some good redfish catches have been some monster trout like the one above. With top-water plugs 4-5 lb. fish have been normal.Good numbers of 20-24 inch redfish are on the flats on low inc...

Captiva Island Fishing Report 12.09.11

Fishing report for the week ending 12/2/2011 Fishing remained good with the arrival of cooler weather. There are fewer light wind days as winter comes on but on the day or two before fronts come in top water plugs can be very effective. Above a snook on a skitterwalk. Winter trout on top water, there have been some big ones like this.Redfish on top water plugs one of my favorites. George Samenuck with a redfish, he has been a regular lately. Pine Island Sound Fishing Report 11.09.11

Redfish have remained steady with bigger trout showing up more with some cooler weather. Pictured below with a redfish caught on a live shrimp under a popping cork.         Reds this size have been steadily gaining length and weight and are probably benifitting from the freeze that hurt the snook in 2010. Pictured above is longtime friend Eric Milton with one of the reds. Below is Kody and friend James.         All of these...

San Carlos Bay Fishing Report 10.13.11

Fishing report for the week ending 10/10/2010       We are getting more like fall weather each day and the redfishing is great. Other than the wind being up several days you can”t beat the temperature or the fishing this time of year.   Here”s regular George Samenuck with a nice redfish he caught in San Carlos Bay free linning a shinner. Just about every oysterbar has good numbers of fish on high water, some enough to keep you in one spot for a long time. Sure...

Sanibel Island Fishing Report 09.27.11

Fall redfish are schooling up with good numbers of 3-4lb. fish being found all thru the bay, many of these fish are the ones we had been catching last fall and this spring. These reds are now in the slot and are fat and hungry.   Ones like this nice over slot fish Fran Peters caught using cut ladyfish are showing up to join the smaller ones. This is one of my favorite times of the year to throw artificials, topwater skitterwalks and redfish magic.     There are loads o...

San Carlos Bay Fishing Report 09.20.11

Fishing report for the week ending 9/19/2011     The last days of summer have been very slow charter wise which is normal for this time of year. After Irene past by the water quality especially in the river and bay changed dramatically, there is very little if any salt content until you get out near the passes. The mullet run has started signaling that fall is not far away, there are few if any quality shinners in the bay. Most fisherman are using pinfish, grunts or cut bait....

Captiva Island Fishing Report 04.08.11

Fishing report for the week ending 4/3/2011         Pictured above is Lauren Lehizh with a 38 inch cobia she caught being held by her father Mitch. This fish was caught free-lining shinners in Pine Island Sound. Great Fish!       April started warmer than normal and with winds much like March. Fishing has stayed good but a couple of strong fronts stirred the bay up and made riding around difficult at times.      ...

Sanibel Island Fishing Report 03.25.11

Without a doubt some of the best quality sea trout fishing in recent memory, not just numbers but size. We are regularly catching two and three lb. fish with my biggest this month being 6.5 lbs.       Spanish mackerel and countless ladyfish have been in and around the beaches and passes. Live shinners are a good bet but shrimp and artificials are also working.       Flounder have also been showing up regularly.       &#...

Pine Island Sound Fishing Report 03.18.11

Fishing report for the week ending 3/13/2011     Spring break is here with great weather and fishing, after a strong front last week gave us several windy days and cool nights to drop the water temperature we have rebounded nicely. This time of year its easy to forget what day it is they all seen to run together.   Trout fishing is still very good with plenty of slot fish available and with the warming water temperatures we will see some of the big ones like last ye...

Estero Bay Fishing Report 03.11.11

Fishing report for the week ending 3/6/2011     Spring like weather is still with us, were getting maybe one weak cool front a week but overall weather and fishing has been great. As in all of the March”s that I can remember we get our windy days but it sure beats the cold. I have been splitting my trips between San Carlos Bay and Estero Bay both of which have had good numbers of sea trout and plenty of slot size fish to be had. Pompano and spanish mackerel have been around...

Sanibel Island Fishing Report 02.16.11

Fishing report for the week ending 2/13/2011     Even though our water and air temperatures have been bouncing up and down we are in a good trend that appears to be a break in the coldfront pattern. Sea Trout fishing has remained good even on the cooler days. Cooler water and lower tides means find the potholes that have been holding fish in weeks that they were in on the last cold spell.   We are in a pattern of a week of marginal weather followed by warm days that ar...

San Carlos Bay Fishing Report 11.30.10

Thanksgiving came and went and another great week of redfishing, warmer than normal conditions have allowed the scools of small redfish to stay on the oysterbars for another week. Fishing in San Carlos Bay and Estero Bay with the right conditions the redfish bite was off the chart at times. The higher water is always better but even on low tides deeper holes are holding sub slot reds in the hundreds.       Fishing with Dan and Sean Quinn on...

Pine Island Sound Fishing Report 11.17.10

After a strong coldfront passed by on the weekend with temperatures in the high 40?s and strong north winds we rebounded nicely by midweek. As air a most importantly water temps rose we had a pleasent suprise of the number of redfish that showed up.       Trips later in the week fishing mostly oystebars on high water with live shinners either free linned or under a popping cork we caught redfish sometimes two at a time. Many of the reds were under the slot...

Sanibel Island Fishing Report 11.16.10

The falls first strong cold front arrived friday changeing the fishing picture for the next week. With water temperature”s dropping, north and east winds and much lower tides this will start us into our early winter pattern. There may be a couple of days to enjoy the end of the bait migration off the beaches, this usually signals the move of the bigger fish to there warmer winter homes. Tarpon either move upriver or south and sharks start thinning out doing there southern migratio...

Estero Bay Fishing Report 09.27.10

This will be my first entry for my new digs at Fish Tale Marina on south Ft. Myers beach, this area is sort of a condensed version of Pine Island Sound. It has all the same elements, passes, oysterbars, mangrove shore lines and plenty of docks where fish can hide. All within close proximity to Big Carlos pass.     There is plenty of bait on the beaches and we are setting ourselfs up for the fall feast in which every fish in the area fattens up before cooler weather arrives. &...

Pine Island Sound Fishing Report 08.25.10

Fishing report for the week ending 8-22-2010     Snook have been primarily on the beaches and around the passes with the best times early and late, midday heat does nothing to get these fish active.   I have been targeting redfish on the high outgoing tides on mangrove shorelines and oysterbars, live shinners or cut ladyfish work best. The reds have been on the smaller 20-24 inch range and numbers are down.   Sea trout, mackerel, ladyfish and the occasional bl...
