Redfish have remained steady with bigger trout showing up more with some cooler weather. Pictured below with a redfish caught on a live shrimp under a popping cork.
Reds this size have been steadily gaining length and weight and are probably benifitting from the freeze that hurt the snook in 2010.

Fall redfish are schooling up with good numbers of 3-4lb. fish being found all thru the bay, many of these fish are the ones we had been catching last fall and this spring. These reds are now in the slot and are fat and hungry.
Ones like this nice over slot fish Fran Peters caught using cut ladyfish are showing up to join the smaller ones. This is one of my favorite times of the year to throw artificials, topwater skitterwalks and redfish magic.

The last days of summer have been very slow charter wise which is normal for this time of year. After Irene past by the water quality especially in the river and bay changed dramatically, there is very little if any salt content until you get out near the passes. The mullet run has started signaling that fall is not far away, there are few if any quality shinners in the bay. Most fisherman are using pinfish, grunts or cut bait....

Without a doubt some of the best quality sea trout fishing in recent memory, not just numbers but size. We are regularly catching two and three lb. fish with my biggest this month being 6.5 lbs.
Spanish mackerel and countless ladyfish have been in and around the beaches and passes. Live shinners are a good bet but shrimp and artificials are also working.

Even though our water and air temperatures have been bouncing up and down we are in a good trend that appears to be a break in the coldfront pattern. Thanksgiving came and went and another great week of redfishing, warmer than normal conditions have allowed the scools of small redfish to stay on the oysterbars for another week. Fishing in San Carlos Bay and Estero Bay with the right conditions the redfish bite was off the chart at times. The higher water is always better but even on low tides deeper holes are holding sub slot reds in the hundreds.

Snook have been primarily on the beaches and around the passes with the best times early and late, midday heat does nothing to get these fish active.
