It is February with a cold front pushing through Texas, Louisiana, Alambama, and approaching fast. Plentiful sunshine and warm air from the Gulf has gotten our water temperature on the rise again. The redfish are stacked up in some of the local community holes and scattered in small groups on the flats. The speckled trout continue to move in and out of the rivers as water temperatures change rapidly from day to day. Flounder have been caught in deep pockets of water as they are awakened by the warm waters draining off the flats. It has been a mild winter so far this year, yet one cold front after another continues to keep the fishing up and down. Today the fishing was on the up side. Red drum were biting well as a friend reported catching 15 in just a few hours. Most were on the small side, but he had a couple of keepers in the mix. I also had a friend yesterday report the trout biting hard up the river as he caught several. Again, most of them being on the small side with only 6 keepers in the mix. Jeffery Weeks just covered a story in the Brunswick Beacon on catching flounder this time of year. I caught one that was 17 inches last week and that is a nice flounder for this time of year. The weather is gorgeous down here! It is suppose to be the same way next weekend and with the new moon just passing the fish should be biting again. Come on down and join us! See ya on the water!
