I am pleased to report that the inshore bite continues to be consistent. We managed an inshore slam on my last trip, catching a handful of each of the three target inshore species. I actually devoted some time to flounder fishing this week and thankfully it worked out, as we found them to be biting pretty well, even though most were throwbacks, as is the norm this time of year. I have seen a lot of flounder fishermen on the water the past couple of days, so I'm sure quite a few have been caught, and I would expect to start seeing some big ones soon. The redfishing continues to be good, as we are finding reds of all sizes in most of the normal redfish spots. As for the trout, they are around and are biting, but it still seems that the fish are a little behind schedule. However, I know of a couple of big fish (5+ lbs.) fish that were caught this week, so hopefully that means that the trout fishing will be back where it should be in the next few days. Finally, another postitve that came about this week is that I am beginning to see more and more bait inshore, as there are a few mullet around in the creeks and the peanut pogies showed up, which will certainly help to improve things on the inshore grounds.
"Blackjack Friday" | OIFC 1- 36' | 04/24/10
Kennan Hill, Daniel Simmon, Brian Robbins and Bryan Freeman made a run to the Blackjack Hole Friday on Kennan's 26 ft Regulator and had a great day with the Pelagics. They caught four wahoos from 20-41 lbs, six blackfin tuna, the biggest being 27 lbs and the rest 25+lbs, one 17 lb mahi and a king mackerel. The water was 72 degrees, it became a little "sporty" (tell me about it) later in the day. They had a good "Carolina meat slam"
Again many thanks to Mrs. Amber Simmon for the report and pictures...This group makes up one heck of a team!
