Had the opportunity to do a little "fun" fishing yesterday aboard my boat, "Monkey Sea" with my new Brother-in-law, Matt Gleason and one of his close friends, Austin Bergman. Weather forecast was calling for somewhat rough conditions so we headed down the ditch from Southport to Lockwood Folly and headed out that way. Found HUGE pogey's right outside the inlet, but soon realized that there was bait EVERYWHERE. Rode a short distance towards Ocean Crest Pier and deployed the kite with 3 baits dangling. Had 1 fish sky on the center bait but it missed the hooks. I then watched 2 boats hookup and catch nice fish out of my chum slick and decided it was time to get moving. A short time after starting the slow troll using Capt. Brant's Pro Rigged Kingfish rigs, we hooked and caught our first fish. Just after putting that one in the fish box, while putting the spread back out, fish number 2 exploded on the propwash bait, always a lot of fun to watch... By the time we had number 2 in the boat, my crew was tired from the rocking and rolling of the ocean so we took it to the hill. Folks, Fall fishing is in full swing. We have all dealt with really slow fishing over the past 2 months. Don't miss out on the action now that it is here.
