Then we dropped a few more times on the same wreck without any more bites there. We moved off to another shipwreck with once again no bites.
Ok time for a change so we set out our kites with 3 live baits and one shark bait suspended from them along with a couple of shark baits down deep.
All of a sudden one of our deep rods bent over and line was just peeling off the reel.
Joe jumped in the chair and the fight was on. This was a back and forth tug a war for a good 35 min till finally we got a good look @ this big hammerhead shark.
We managed to slide him in the tuna door to get a measurement of him to have a replica trophy made of him we also got all the hooks out of him and watched him swim away in good shape.
Ok thing were looking a bit better for our charter but we still needed to get Jesse and his farther in law something to eat so back to trolling we went.
It took a while but @ last a bite and Teofilo jumped in the chair and reeled in a nice black fin tuna.
Holly cow what an exciting day of deep-sea fishing we had!!
Thanks again to all of our anglers today and were looking forward to fishing with all of you again soon.
(Fishing With Family never know what might happen!!)
As we pulled back into the dock we had to get ready for our afternoon trip.
Let me take a moment to explain how this after noon trip came about.
A few days ago I meet my mom for dinner along with her sister Cheryl and her husband Ted. After a few drinks I guess I had invited them to ride along on one of our fishing trips. Ok so far so good but the fooling day I meet a good friend Tim who had been fishing with me since way back in my Happy Day Today days (Over 17 years ago) Well I forgot that I had already invited Aunt Cheryl and Ted to ride out on a fishing trip and I invited my old buddy Tim to ride out on a trip.
So I came up with this great idea to just take all of them out on their own fishing trip.
We even some how managed to get Nancy Tims wife to come along.
Ok so the stage is set the beer was loaded aboard and off we went on a little fishing trip.
We went right to a ship wreck and dropped a live bait down hopping to start out by catching everyone a big amber jack but as luck would have it the jacks were not biting however the beers were going down good. Right Ted? (Ill get back to the beer later)
Ok time for plain B so out went the kites with 3 live baits suspended from them along with one shark bait and down went 2 more shark baits one down about 150 feet and the last down on the bottom 350 feet.
Ok so the trap was set and once again the beers were flowing when all of a sudden J.J. yelled from the cockpit that something was all over our shark bait suspended from the kite. Well J.J. was right the line shot off like a rocket the rod bent over and line was screaming off the reel.
@ This point everyone got real excited but J.J. kept his wits about him and said first thing first he knew we had to clear our 2 deep lines first before trying to fight this SEA MONSTER. So uncle Ted started on one of the deep rods while Tim reeled up the other one. By the way trying to reel these lines up as fast as you can WILL WARE YOU DOWN. While they were reeling up the deep lines J.J. turned around and asked me if I had seen the fish? I replied that not really but I was sure it was a shark. J.J. had seen the fish and let me know that he was pretty sure it was a huge tiger shark.
At this point Nancy and Cheryl who were up on the fly bridge with me were so into talking and they really were not into the fishing thing that they did not even know what we had going on down stairs.
Ok lines all got cleared and Ted jumped in the chair and the fight was on. Ted really was not getting much of a chance to fight this fish because he was just holding the rod as the fish was just screaming off line. Than I head Tim ask Ted if he was ok? Than he asked again and J.J.got wind of it so J.J. looked up @ me and kind of shook his head at me.

Ok Ted time for a little break and Tim jumped in the chair but as Tim was fighting the fish I heard him asking who was now sitting in another chair Ted ARE YOU OK?? No response as thing changed real quick. J.J. went right for his wrist seeing if there was a pulse And Tim grabbed his hand and was asking him to squeeze his finger if he could hear him.
All this time the girls still had no idea to what was going on till I asked Aunt Cheryl if Ted had any medical conditions? Well needless to say this got her attention real quick as she ran down stairs.
I yelled down to J.J. to cut the line!! He looked @ me for about a half a second Im sure because nether one of us had ever cut lose a big fish like this before.
We were off like a rocket. I called ahead and had the paramedics waiting for us @ the closest dock.
As it turned out Ted had suffered a little heat stroke but after a couple of hours in the hospital he was released.
WHAT HE IS OK BUT?? WHAT ABOUT THE FISH!!!
The following night we all got together for dinner and Ted was awarded the greatest fisherman in the world award. Ted Congratulations!! (LOL)
As luck would have it one of our friends on another boat seen this fish swim by with a long piece of line trailing behind and they managed to grab the line and caught the fish that tried to kill Uncle Teddy.Check out the fish below caught by a 4 year old kid.

Stay Tuned next month when my Uncle Dickey comes down to fish aboard the Hooked Up (O NO Not Again)

Today we had Adria from Bellingham Washington Jay from Willington N.C. Chris from right down here in Fort Lauderdale and Ken from Van Cover.
We started out trolling the reef with our 2-planner board running about 45 feet down along with 3 surface baits skipping across the surface. As it turned out trolling the reef today was just not producing many fish for us however we did manage to catch a couple of bonitos.

It was time for a change.
So in came the trolling gear and out went the kite with the live baits suspended from them.
All of a sudden a sailfish popped up and before we knew it we had Adria in the chair and a sailfish on the other end jumping all over the place.

After a good 20 min fight Adria finally got her big sailfish to the boat. Way To Hang In There Adria!

Ok here we go again with Eric and his son James and our last chance to catch Eric his first sailfish.
Today was hero or zero because we knew that it had to be a sail for Eric and Ive got to say that the pressure was on due to the fishing being on the slow side today.
We had a hard north current so I decided to run about 10 miles to the south and try fishing water off the beating path in hopes of finding Erics sail fish.
We set out our kites and suspended our 4 live baits from the kites and waited and waited and waited with no bites. (RATS)
Ok so catching a sail was just not looking good for us today so once again I take the blame and decided to work our way out to 350 feet of water and set out a couple shark baits along with the live baits we already had out. At this point I was just looking at bettering our odds of catching a big fish of any kind.
Once again no bites and now time was starting to run out.
Ok Ive always noticed that if you put in an extra effort it seems to pay off. So in came all the baits and we ran back into about 105 feet of water and started over with just the live baits out of the kites and no more shark baits out.
All of a sudden here he came a big sail fish all over our right long kite bait and before you could blink an eye he was jumping and we or should I say Eric was Hooked Up.
Ive got to say that in all my years of fishing Ive seen a lot of anglers light up when they finally got a shot @ fighting a big sail that was dancing all over the surface but this time Im not sure who was lit up more the fish, Eric or me?
We finally got Erics fish to the boat and we really dont like pulling them into the boat just for a photo but this one was coming in and yes we got the photo as you can see and we also watched him swim away in great shape
O yea and I almost forgot about James he also got to catch a nice 18-pound kingfish.
Eric I cant thank you enough for your patience and thanks sooo much for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.
