OK -- here is the deal. I know a lot of you have been watching our site waiting to go fishing until the fish started biting. I don't half blame you, although it does put a lot of pressure on us to find fish all by ourselves- lots of ground to cover. The biggest thing slowing more fishing has been the lack of Kings; it has been tough fishing for them this Summer. But, here is the fishing deal right now that will hopefully get you moving and on the water

We have been fishing100 feet to find Kings. I fished that depth Saturday and had fun with Wahoo and Sailfish, but no Kings. I was disappoined in my effort, but also encouraged as I found out that there has been a good bite in 50 feet of water at spots such as the 390s.... Also there has been a beach bite going on near the Cherry Grove pier. Up towards the Cape Fear the bite has been slower with a few fish coming off Yaupon, but the water is pretty dirty up that way and action is slower. This will change.

Further offshore, the Gag Grouper bite has started to take off. Fishing 60-80 feet has been producing limits of Gags in the 10-20 pound range for our recent 8 and 10 hour charters.

There is a ton of bait along the beach as well, so live bait fishing should not be a problem.

That's the report. The ocean is coming to life and it is time to get on the water. This coming weekend is the US OPEN King Mackerel Tournament, so come on down and fish the tournament -- stop by the OIFC for all your fishing needs, we have them.

See you here.
