June is finally here and so are the king fish and dolphin fish.

Today we started out our June fishing with Dan and Christie from Huston Texas. We knew that we did not have a lot of fishing time on this trip so we decided to go right after as many fish as we could the fastest. Things were working out just how we had hoped with the king fish biting and we even caught a small dolphin fish on the reef but what came next we never expected!! There was a sailfish all over our left long bait and he was not leaving till he got what he wanted.

Before we knew it he was jumping and we were Hooked Up.

Dan jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It took a good 15 min till Dan finally got his first sail to the boat.

Way to go Dan. What a great way to start out the new month.

Today we had Karla and Neal from Kansas aboard for a day of deep sea fishing and things could not have gone any better.

We started out trolling the reef looking for some king fish or some bonitos but they just were not biting but as we trolled our way to the south we ended up over a ship wreck that laid about 225 feet down and in came the trolling gear and down went a live bait. It only took a couple of seconds on the bottom when BAM the rod bent over line started peeling off the reel and we were Hooked Up.

Karla jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It was a big back and forth tug a war for a good 10 min till finally Karla’s fish popped up. A big greater amber jack.

Way to go Karla!

As it turned out now that we had the skunk out of the box things started working out better for us and it seemed we were done fishing and we were now CATCHING.

We ran back up to the north and set out our fishing kite with a couple live baits suspended from them and we also set out shark bait on the bottom.

Once all the baits were set J.J. went inside to get some lunch when all of a sudden a big hammer head shark popped up on one of our live baits suspended from the kite.

(No time for lunch now J.J.)

This was good and bad all at the same time. It sure would have been nice if the shark would have gone after the shark bait on the big shark rod. BUT NOOOO it had to eat a live bait on a little reel with 25 pound test line and a small light wire leader.

This was not going to be a fight of strength it was going to be a fight of endurance and it was HOT out today about 88 degrees.

Neal fought this shark for about 45 min till J.J. finally grabbed the leader. It was a catch and one hell of a catch I might add.

Way to hang in there Neal

After catching Neal’s hammer head shark we drifted in to about 120 feet of water and the king fish started biting like mad dogs one after another and we ended up with a box full of kings to boot.

Neal we are looking forward to fishing with you again in a couple of days. But I’ve got to say that this is going to be a hard catch to top.
