Today we had Frank, Jessica, Chris, Linda, 9-year-old Chris and Granddad whose name we guess was DaDa all from Fort Lauderdale Florida.

We started out trolling the reef looking for some good eating fish and ended up catching a bunch of kingfish.
While the kings are ok eating they really are not the best fish in the sea so we made a left hand turn and headed out to a little deeper water in search of some better eating fish. Off sore we did manage to catch a nice 9-pound dolphin fish and a big skip jack tuna.

Ok time for plain B so in came the trolling gear and out went the kites with live baits suspended from the kites.
Here where fishing got a bit slower for us but ended up being the best move of the day.

Once the baits were all set out of the kites J.J. seen a big splash by our left long bait and with in seconds line started peeling off the reel. Jessica jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a 10 min back and forth tug a war Jessica reeled up this big barracuda.

Nice going Jessica!!

J.J. got the baits set right back out and all of a sudden out of nowhere up popped a sailfish on our short right kite bait.
Once this sail caught the bait we let him just swim away with the bait for a good 10 to 15 seconds than Greg went ahead with the boat to get the line tight as quick as possible and BAM we were Hooked Up with this sailfish jumping all over the place. Little 9year old Chris jumped in the chair and the fight was on.

This Chris is one tough little guy and he was determined to catch this sailfish. The fish would pull out 20 to 30 feet of line and Chris would gain 20 to 30 feet back and forth this went on but at last Chris hung in there and he finally got his first sailfish to the boat.

WAY TO GO CHRIS

Today we took out Alex, Shawn, Kit and Stanley all from Dallas Texas.

We started out trolling the reef but for some reason the reef seemed to shut down on us today and all we caught trolling was 1 kingfish.

Ok so there is more than 1 way to skin a cat so in came all the trolling gear and off they went looking for some good bottom to fish.
They went to an old spot we have not fished in years and man was that the right choice they ended up catching a bunch of bottom fish.

They ended up catching 1 nice mutton snapper along with 4 vermilion snappers and 25 nice tilefish.

Greg and J.J. way to stick it out and keep trying different types of fishing till BAM you guys hit the bottom and it paid off.

Today we got a last min call from a few guys who were down on a softball tournament and got the afternoon off and thought it might be fun to go out fishing for a few hours. I don’t think they had any idea of what great fishing they were about to have!!

We had Ricky, Jeremy, Alex and Blaine.

Since we were out for only 3 hours and this gave us just over 2 hour of actually fishing time we went right to kite fishing with 4 live baits suspended from the kites.
Once all the bats were set it only took a few min till we got our first bite.
Blaine jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a good 10 min fight Blaine got a nice barracuda to the boat.
Ok now the skunk was out of the box so right back out went the bait and once again the trap was set.

All of a sudden a big sailfish popped up and was after our right long kite bait. Within seconds the sail had caught the bait and line was screaming off the reel. Ricky jumped in the chair and the fight was on.

At first this sail was dancing all over the surface but than he headed straight down and it turned into a gulling back and forth tug a war but Ricky hung in there and 15 min later Ricky had his first sailfish to the side of the boat.

We got a couple of pictures of him swimming next to the boat and J.J. cut the line right at the hook and we all watched him swim away in great shape to fight again another day.

(Guy’s thanks again for taking the time to fish with us aboard the Hooked Up.) O yea and best of luck with your softball tournament.

Today we fished with Tom from North Carolina, Lynn from South Dakota, Cheryl and Jay from Virginia and Don from Iowa.

We went right to trolling the reef with 2 planner boards running about 45 to 50 feet down and 3 baits skipping across the surface.
Today the planner boards were on fire with everyone catching 12 kingfish, a bunch of bonitos and 2 nice barracudas.

To all of our anglers today we had a ball fishing with you aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of South Florida.

Today we had a total of 21 guys fishing with 5 of the boats in our fleet. These guys all work for a cigar company called Al Capone Cigar Company and I’ve got to say these guys were all a blast to fish with.

Aboard the Hooked Up we had Marcel out of Miami Florida, Jono from Tampa Florida (And yes this is how he spells his name) Russ from Atlanta Georgia, and Bob from the city where they make things small New Jersey (LOL).

We started out trolling the reef catching a few kingfish and bonitos a few beers and a LOT of CIGAR SMOKE and some great laughs.

Ok now that everyone had caught fish it was time to switch things up and see if we could catch the biggest fish out of the fleet.
We brought in all of our trolling gear and set out our kites with live baits suspended from them. Ok so the trap was set and the wait was on. We waited and waited and waited and choked on some more cigar smoke and waited some more.

Than all of a sudden as I was giving Jono a hard time about chain-smoking these cigars a big splash by one of our kite bait and we were Hooked Up.

We figured the only way to get a little break from Jono,s smoke was to put him in the chair to fight this fish. No Such Luck Jono was now smoking his cigar and fighting this big fish at the same time.

After a good 7 min fight up popped this monster 51-inch barracuda.

Way to go Jono and look a photo with no cigar in your mouth!!

Marcel and the rest of the gang from Al Capone cigars we had a BLAST fishing with all of you thanks again and we are looking forward to our next SMOKY fishing trip.
