Fishing with Carsten and Vanessa Catching nice Grouper

September 1st, 2011

We started out fishing September when Carsten and Vanessa from Goch Germany drove up to the boat looking to go fishing for a few hours.

We started out trolling the reef looking for some kingfish but as it turned out the bonitos were biting like mad dogs. We were catching pretty much as many small bonitos as we wanted.

We kept trolling the reef but all we kept catching were bonitos, bonitos and more bonitos.

Ok time for a change so we brought in the trolling gear and sent down one of these little bonitos about 210 feet down on a wreck.

BAM we were Hooked Up and this was no bonito.
Carsten jumped in the chair and the fight was on. I pulled ahead with the boat so the fish on the other end could not get us back into the wreck as Carsten reeled as fast as he could. When it was all said and done up popped this 15 pound black grouper.

Holly cow there were other types of fish out here today! (LOL)

Carsten and Vanessa thanks again for fishing with us today aboard the Hooked Up and have a great cruse aboard the Oasis.

Enzio lands a big fish aboard the Hooked Up

September 2nd, 2011

Today we fished Dino and his son Enzio from West Virginia. Apparently yesterday Dino and Enzio were having a good time swimming in the ocean and having lunch just pretty much having a good time and forgot to wake up Anzio’s mom AKA Dino’s wife and well lets just say she got a little sunburned (Well Done) and she was just not all that happy with these 2 guys. It was a good day to get away and let her cool down!

So that’s how we ended up fishing aboard the Hooked Up today. (LOL)

We started out trolling the reef with 2 planers boards and 3 surface baits. Our plan was to troll to the south toward a wreck off the coast of Hallandale Beach.

We were hopping to catch some kingfish and bonitos on the way but all we could catch was bonitos.
Once we got off the coast of Hallandale we brought in all the trolling gear and Greg set out 2 small bonitos with trouble hooks in them. One of the baits was set out on the surface while the second was sent down deep on a downrigger.

I must admit that at first things did not look so good over this wreck. We slow trolled these perfect little baits all over the wreck again and again all the time there was a dive boat waiting for us to move so they could dive.

Ok it was a good try so just as we were pulling away from the wreck the deep line popped off the down rigger, the rod bent over and line started screaming off the reel. (WE WERE HOOKED UP)

At first Greg hung on to the rod as I started pulling us further and further away from the wreck so this sea monster could not get us back into the wreck. Finally after what seemed like for ever (90 seconds) we were far enough away.

Enzio jumped at the rod and the fight was on. Now honestly I do this fishing thing almost everyday and we catch some fish and some get away but this one was a cliff hanger because we had this big fish on such light tackle and you could see how badly Enzio wanted to catch this fish.

Not to worry this is not a sad Hemingway fish story because after a good 15 min Enzio caught the big one that did not get away.

I can’t remember the last time I seen a kid jumping up and down yelling YEA YEA YEA!! Nice going Enzio a 50 plus inch barracuda on 15 pound test.

Dino and Enzio thanks so much for fishing with us and we are looking forward to fishing for sailfish with you guys this winter.

Fishing Ft Lauderdale aboard Hooked Up

September 4th, 2011

Today we had a shared charter with Arty, Maddy and Rob from Coral Springs Florida, Eloy from New Mexico and Terry from Michigan.

We started out trolling the reef with 2 planner boards running deep and 3 baits skipping across the surface.

Today while we did have a good hard north current witch usually means good fishing trolling was just not producing many fish. While we did manage to catch a bonito that was it and we knew it was time for a change.

Captain Greg decided to try 2 different kinds of fishing at the same time.
So in came the trolling gear and out went the kites with live baits suspended from the kites. After all the live baits were set out J.J. got out our rod made for deep drops and dropped 5 chunks of bait on one rod and down they went.

This was the perfect plan while we were waiting for that big bite out of the kite they started catching snappers and triggerfish.
Than out of nowhere up popped this sailfish and with on seconds he took the bait and we were Hooked Up.

Terry jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It took a good 15 min till Terry had his first sail to the side of the boat. The good news was Terry caught a big sailfish the bad news was that all the pictures Captain Greg took were just photos of water and splashes after the fish was back in the water.

Can’t really put the blame on Greg because I go threw this all the time while we really want the pictures to post on the reports the most important thing is to not run over the fish so most of our attention is on driving and photos take a back seat.

Guy’s thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

As we got back to the dock we had Drew and his son J.P. from Kentucky eager to give their luck a shot aboard the Hooked Up.

Once again we tried trolling with no luck so once again out went the kites and BAM once again the live baits were the trick with Drew landing a nice trophy barracuda.

Guy’s thanks again for fishing with us sorry fishing was slow today BUT we will make it up to you guys next time.
