Estero Bay Fishing Report 01.10.12
Submitted by Captain Ron Kowalyk, Back Bay FishingSubmitted on 01/10/2012
Estero Bay held up well in the chilly wind and sluggish tides. Reds were thick throughout the bay, mixed size with scads of rats. Snook were mixed in with the reds and other critters under the bushes around the meanders and bigger creek mouths. Shrimp whitebait and scented plastics all scored when fish slow and tight to the bottom. There were lots of sheepies, reds, snapper and fat black drum around the docks, shrimp, shrimp and more shrimp! Whiting were thick in Matanzas Pass and at Big Carlos. There were active Spanish, big jacks and ladyfish in the passes. Good trout reports bode well for fine opening day catches. There were good numbers of upper slot specks reported. Topwater, rootbeer jigs and Gulp Shrimp all produced.
