Fishing Report
There's honestly not a lot to elaborate on at this minute. The weather is finally warming and water temperatures are into the mid 50's. The inshore fishing has been good for Redfish and Trout, although the recreational Trout season remains closed in NC thanks to a NCMF mandate. Offshore, the vertical jigging and trolling along the 30 fathom break will begin to get good this month. There have been reports of decent catches of Blackfin Tuna, many 30+ pounds as well as a few Yellowfin Tuna. Wouldn't that be something if the Yellowfin showed back up this year! Who knows? Also, there are Cobia and African Pompano also starting to show from vertical jigging, which typically only gets better through March and into April. Inshore of the break, the Sea Bass are as big as small dogs. If you want to enjoy seeing what you could be eating, thanks to a full closure of the Sea Bass fishery by the Federal Government, you would be well suited to go Sea Bass fishing. With no threat from any fisherman for over a month, I'd be scared to jump in the water. The water is too cool for Mackerel or Atlantic Bonito, but that will be changing. I'll be sure you know when all that happens. Stay tuned- Capt. Brant.
