A good week of fishing was had despite the return of higher winds. Most trips were taken in the back country of Estero Bay with a few quick trips into the Gulf. Trout were biting well on live shrimp under popping corks and it wasn’t unusual to pick up the occasional pompano in the same area. If you dropped shrimp tipped jigs to the bottom you’d find some nice flounder along with a number of whiting. The redfish are starting to show but are still spread out a bit. They were going for cut ladyfish cast near the mangrove edges and around the oyster bars in the north end of Estero Bay. Spanish mackerel are just about everywhere and are going after live bait, shrimp under corks and silver or gold spoons. Tarpon are moving into the area’s near shore waters but the wind is going to have to lay down a bit to get to them. We did manage to hook up with 3 of the silver kings early in the week with one a bit over 125 pounds.
