Been getting lots of emails and calls about status of Shallotte inlet. I am happy to say that through the concerted effort of the Town of Ocean Isle, Army Corps, NC Wildlife and the OIFC we now have a VERY nice channel THAT IS MARKED correctly and wide open for business. The channel is currently 12 feet at low tide. I will continue work with NC Wildlife to insure the buoys stay accurate as they mark a safe path to the deep water. Good luck to all, Shallotte inlet should be very navigable for the coming year.
On the fishing scene, I'm taking the new Yellowfin offshore tomorrow in search of glory- weather permitting. Planning on running 80-100 miles offshore in search of BIG Dolphin and Blue Marlin. I'm attempting an experiment to see if I actually solely target BIG fish in parts unknown if success is likely. We will see- stay tuned for a report. Our other charter boats will be trolling the edge of the Stream and be Kingfishing, so give us a call on VHF 11 all weekend. Kings currently in 50-65 feet of water- the 65-100 foot depth range will not see near as much action-- get over 100 feet and you'll find them again -- Cobia in the 40-65 foot range as well and Mahi are scattered all over with main concentration in 150+ feet -- good luck to all, stay tuned.

Mike Kennedy sent these pictures he took from a fishing trip last Friday with his wife Kathy and daughter Tara. The fish were caught while slow trolling. This was Tara's first Mahi. Also this was Kathy's first trip off shore and her first fish was a Cobia. Both ladies are ready to go again.
