WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 2 FEET, STAINED & 73 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL

 

 

 

Bass fishing has been excellent. There are three predominant patterns going on right now. West Point Lake has fish spawning, a shad spawn, and post spawn fish. Anglers should focus their efforts on the shad spawn and spawning fish. The shad spawn is providing easy forage for bass first thing in the morning before the sun crests the trees. Look for isolated patches of rock and wood for spawning shad north of the 109 bridge. Using buzz baits and Pop R’s in white patterns make multiple casts to these areas. Action can be quick so be sure to utilize time efficiently because this bite will not last long. For spawning fish make sure you have a good charge on your trolling batteries to cover water. The spawning fish are far and few between. My best areas have been in short pockets in the river.

 

 

 

Hybrid and striper fishing is good. The best fishing has been north of Ringer access. Drop live shad and cut bait in deeper holes in the river. The bite has been the best when current is present so check generation schedules before heading out.

 

 

 

Crappie fishing has been great. Fish have been caught in two ways. There are a few beds left, but most have left to stage on docks and brush piles. Use live minnows below corks approximately two to three feet deep. The best creeks have been mid lake in Whitewater and Wilson creeks.
