Preparing for a little fishing yesterday...I was casting my net for bait when I noticed I had caught a barracuda...Well, you know it is hot when you are catching barracuda in the canals. Swimmers don't be too alarmed, he was only big enough to take a toe or two:) Lots of shrimp out there to be used as bait and seems to be the choice of many fish right now. The mullet have shown up in full force and are everywhere finally! Still perfect sized flounder pogies can be found up and down the waterway as well. The dinner table is set for the fall run! I believe even in this heat the fish know fall is right around the corner. The last couple of times I have been out the fish have been crushing the baits. We have had to move a lot to find exactly where they are feeding, but once you do...game on! We caught several trout, redfish, and flounder today...with the occassional bluefish and pinfish in the mix. Live shrimp under a popping cork was working pretty good, but slowed down for some reason. My buddy Jerry started throwing my Sea Assassin jig and slammed a few nice trout. I decided to try topwater since the action was so hot...I landed several redfish on topwater along with several nice trout as well. Jerry also busted a flounder on artificials and a redfish. Jerry actually land a Carolina Slam on artificials today. We all landed a Carolina Slam or two for that matter. The inshore action is definitely hot right now...not sure how long it will last. I hope this bite stays with us on through to the fall. I am sure the full moon has a lot to do with such a hot bite right now as well. Time to get on the water and enjoy some fishing. See ya on the water!
