Block Island Sound (Montauk to Block Island) From May to November, the surrounding waters are often referred to as the Bermuda of the North because of the numbers of striped bass, bluefish, fluke and other species migrating into the area. Whether fishing the various islands inshore inlets, offshore banks, wrecks or reefs, youll find more than enough to test your skill.

We had a nice group from Springfield MA out on the BENMAR today. The bites were pretty constant. Some of the fish were caught, some were missed and some were lost at the boat according to Capt. George. This usually means that a little overexuberance at the critical time allows the fish to get away just before it is netted. Capt. John Groff spent the day today (Tuesday 6/16/09) with Capt. George and writes:
“…we got quite a number of fluke today, many of which were “keepers” under the old rules. However, the current rules call for 19.5 inches in CT and we had three nice ones that were 22, 24 and 26.5 inches. The last one looked like a small halibut….very thick. The fillets were immense!”

D.C.OUTDOOR ADVENTURES inc. Report:We had the Lee party out yesterday out of Montauk. We steamed across to S/E of Block island. Fishing was tougher than the previous week but we found Bigger Cod up to 30 Lbs. drifting jigs and clams. They got some nice fillets to take home for some nice dinners! South of Block Island:The boats are still hitting the codfish pretty strong on the southeast side of Block Island. Plenty of descent fish coming over the rails. Lots of fish in the teens,with some 20, 30, and even a few 40 pond fish being caught. It's good to see some cod back in this area. Looking forward to getting going with another great season.
