Description:
The Charleston Harbor is an inlet (8 sq mi/20.7 km²) of the Atlantic Ocean at Charleston, South Carolina. The inlet is formed by the junction of Ashley and Cooper rivers. Morris and Sullivan's Island, shelter the entrance. Charleston Harbor is part of the Intracoastal Waterway.
Red drum is the #1 gamefish in our area. They are very abundent, year round residents that are very catch and release friendly. The red drum goes by many different names including redfish, spottail bass, channel bass, puppy drum, copper back, etc. By any name, you'll know it when one grabs your offering and takes off for the horizon! Redfish are known to bend rods and send drags screaming! Redfishing in the Charleston area is excellent year round. Fall is considered the absolute best time to fish for redfish.

Inshore/Flats Fishing Report for Charleston,SC
Had the pleasure of having Steve and Collin in from Boston for a couple days of Sightfishing for Redfish with Fly/Spin. Steve ended up landing 6 Fish on Fly and Collin using Spin landing 13 fish. Gulp shrimps and Exude darts rigged on flutter style hook seem to get plenty of action and for Flies EP crabs and Redfish Toad patterns work the best in dark colors.

Great Redfishing!
Redfish in schools by the 100s on the flats. Also some great action dock fishing for Redfish. Mild winter has made for some active fish willing to bite! I have been scouting some new areas and have found hundreds of reds we just need some more anglers to bear a little cool weather and come out to reel them in!

Charleston Inshore Fishing Charters and Guides
Fished three days last week and 2 were with clients. The warm weather has really turned the redfish bite on fire. We have been getting good numbers on Zman soft plastics with Pro Cure and on the fly on small black clousers. first trip I fished with clients out of Charleston and we found the redfish in large schools on the flats. North East winds started picking up at the end of the week and making fishing conditions tough but the redfish, trout, and flounder were still biting strong. Early in the week we had good conditions with large tides, still plenty of happy tailing reds in the flooded marsh grass on tides 6.2 and greater. Most of the redfish have been holding tight to structure ( docks, oysters, and rip rap) and feeding on shrimp, mullet and crabs. The breeder reds are in full gear around deeper water structure...

Fished today with some regular clients and we sight cast and fly fished on the flats today and boated 6 nice redfish with the biggest weighing 17 pounds. Fun day and the trout bite should be heating up with the cooler weather.

Fishing report for Charleston,S.C.
Your best bet is fishing for reddrum.
With the cold weather, the water temp is in the 40 degree range, the water is gin clear, and the reddrum are in schools of a hundred fish or better. We have been using cut mullet, and gulp baits to get these fish to eat. On average, the fish being caught are 5-10 pounds.

Charleston Low Tide Redfish
Rob and his son River braved the chilly temperatures at first light this morning so we could fish both sides of low tide. Trip started off with a bang as the redfish inhaled Robs jerkshad lure. We found several schools of 50+ redfish bunched up and hanging on the edges of oyster beds.
River did a great job learning to cast and his 10 pound redfish was the highlight of the trip!

Reef Fishing
We have been fishing the nearshore reefs off of Charleston the last couple of weeks and have been doing well jigging gulp shrimp over the structure. We have boated big redfish, blues, weakfish and black sea bass. Tides have not made any difference on the fishing. Hopefully the winds will lay down again and we can get back out there

Bull redfish have been excelent the past few days fishing in the surf
Flounder have been hitting shrimp and mudminnow on the outgoing tide in chas harbor

I fished 4 days in the last 2 weeks dodging cold fronts and windy conditions, but the redfish action has been good.
Thursday fished with a group in the morning and found 1 large school of redfish on the flats ( about 80 fish) but they were spooky and only gave us a few bites. Wind picked up so we tucked into a small creek and found 2 schools tucked behind some oysters, used gulp jerk shads and grubs tipped with minnows and caught 38 redfish between 4-11 pounds.

Fished the harbor today with new client Andrew who was entertaining a customer. There was no shortage of action today, they boated over 40 trout and over a dozen redfish.
Most fish were caught on DOA Shrimp and Zman Chatterbaits, with a few on live shrimp. Nice to see some big trout show up, they caught 10 trout over 3 pounds.

October was a great month, and so far the first week of November has been pretty good. Had a first in October on a charter, fished the second day of the Redbone with Ned and brent on a charter and caught more than 100 redfish. I dont think that I have ever done that in Charleston before, we boated between 125-150 redfish with 34 of the fish being big ones ( biggest about 16 pounds). Trout have been in good numbers as well with most days producing 20-60 fish per trip, had 3 trips wher we caught...

The cooler weather has help turn on the inshore bite around the Charleston local waters.

Fished with favorite customer Ron Shuckman on Thursday in the harbor. Trip started out slow but ended on fire. Ron boated 24 redfish (2-14 pounds) 9 black drum (4-9 pounds) 2 sheepshead, 1 trout and a flounder.

Fished with customers Friday in the Kiawah River and they boated 57 redfish ( biggest 9 lbs), 11 trout, 6 ladyfish and 1 huge flounder. Most fish were caught on live shrimp and mullet.

They didnt show up for there charter, So I went any way.

Went out with my buddy Capt John Walpole to see if we could get a cobia out on the channel markers that lead in to the Charleston harbor. We didnt see them on the way out,,,,,but saw about 20 of them on the way back in. We hooked up on the fish at 12:15 and put him in the boat at 12:50. My buddy had to be back early, so one fish is all we had time for.
