Everglades National Park.Established in 1947, Everglades National Park is the home of American crocodiles, leatherback turtles, Florida panthers and a lot of mosquitoes. To get up close and really personal with the endangered creatures inhabiting this watery 40-mile-wide wonderland, explore by canoe. Wilderness Waterway, a 100-mile marked inside water route through creeks, rivers and bays, winds from the Gulf of Mexico to Flamingo on Florida Bay. For an easier ride, hop on an airboat on the park's outskirts.

It is my good fortune to fly fish around the world for a living, including my own fly fishing trips to the Everglades; so I get to see some great fishing locations. And yet, fishing the Florida Everglades with Geoff is one of the highlight trips of the year. Year after year.

Geoff's vast knowledge and enthusiasm for the area is unsurpassed. Easy going and good humor are also part of the days fishing. And his poling approach to sighted fish, always makes my casting as easy as it can be under the challenging circumstances. My son Stephen and I, have taken many double figure snook with Geoff.

And then when he takes you in the back country, way back where only and handful can go, at best, it is like seeing the glades as it must have been hundreds of years ago. A labyrinth of red mangroves, tunnels, saw grass buttonwoods, creeks, lakes and bays, mixed with snook, redfish, tarpon, largemouth bass and bull sharks. It is one of my favorite places to fly fish in the world.

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 06.23.16

As June rolls into July, we can almost count on daily rain storms like clock work for the next couple of months. Look for your best bite to be early in the day, and again late in the afternoon/early evening after the rain comes in and cools things off a bit. Day time air temperatures are now hovering around 90 degrees each day, bringing the water temperatures up into the upper 80's. In July, the New moon falls on the 4th of the month and the full moon on the 20th. Expect higher and...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 06.01.15

Everglades City, Chokoloskee, and the Everglades National Park The Summer heat is here, and the bite is on!  Day time air temperatures in June are hovering around 90 degrees each day, which has now brought the average water temperature up to 86 degrees. Your best bet for fishing the shallow flats in June will be early morning up until about noon, and then again late in the afternoon after 4:00 until sunset.  The regular mid day storms will become more regular as the month...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 03.19.15

In like a lion and out like a lamb… March is living true to the saying. We had weeks of wind and are now seeing a settling trend beginning. The water temp is now 80 degrees, and along with that comes our late winter/early spring fishery. We now have some of the best Speckled Trout fishing our area has to offer. On the outside flats, try casting out 3/8 oz bucktail jigs tipped with very small fresh shrimp pieces (cut a shrimp into 6-8 pieces).  You can buy them at Everglades...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 12.14.14

December 2014 Forecast: Chokoloskee, Everglades City, and the Everglades National Park December brings some changes to our weather and our local fishery. The daytime air temperatures will drop to a mild average of the mid 70’s and water temperatures will drop to the high 60’s. The 1st half of the month will typically be very mild and our first cold front of the season usually heads in sometime during the 2nd half. The full moon this December falls on the 6th and the...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 07.01.13

Forecast: Everglades City, Chokoloskee, and the Everglades National Park July 2013 Here in the Ten Thousand Islands, the weather in July is predictable, as are the fishing patterns.  Daily storms are now arriving late in the morning to early afternoon and cool things off a little.  The bite is early in the day, and again late in the afternoon/early evening.  Expect the bite to drop off to nothing during mid day heat and slack tides. Day time air temperatures are n...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 05.01.13

May is here and the water temperatures are up to the high 70’s - summer fishing has begun! It already seems like forever since those cool mornings and relentless winds we had last month. May is generally a mild month as the winter winds are finished, and the summer storms have not yet begun.  Because of this, you can travel further distances, and work different wrecks and areas less fished by others.  If you get out to the shallow wrecks, look for larger schools of Permi...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 11.01.12

Chokoloskee, Everglades City, and the Everglades National Park November is one of my absolute favorite months here in the Everglades National Park! The reasons are numerous and I could go on forever describing them, but some of the highlights are…. 1) Mild weather patterns with little rain and light winds, 2) Fish are actively following and feeding on the huge bait pods just off the coastal beaches, 3) Daytime temperatures are comfortably hovering in the high 70’s to low 8...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 12.01.11

December is upon us and with it comes some big changes to the fishery in the 10,000 Islands. Some pretty good and some not that good. Our first major cold front typically comes after the middle of the month. We have already had a few minor fronts come through in November, however nothing too extreme like we had last November. Expect the Gulf water temperatures to drop to the mid 60’s later in the month. During the winter months it is critical to keep a watchful eye on the tide...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 11.01.11

November fishing in Chokoloskee, Everglades City, and the Everglades National Park   November is certainly one of my favorite months here in the 10,000 Islands! Rainy season is basically over, so the weather patterns are typically mild and the daytime temperatures are comfortably hovering in the high 70’s to low 80’s. Fish are following and feeding on bait pods that migrate into the area just off the near coastal beaches.   The change of seasons will begin to affe...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 08.31.11

September is the last HOT and rainy month of the summer here in the Everglades National Park. Day time air temperatures are averaging around 91. Water temps hover around 86. Typical to our summer months, September heats up so much by mid day, that the bite will usually drop off by lunch time. We will still get early day storms which will cool things off a little, and produce a late afternoon/ early evening bite.   Typically September 1st means the beginning of Snook season, however du...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 08.09.11

August is for sure one of the warmest months of the year to fish here in Chokoloskee, Everglades City, and the Everglades National Park, however, if you time your day appropriately, is can also be one of your most productive fishing months. Day time air temperatures are now averaging around 92. Water temps around 87. It does heat up by mid day, but the daily thunder storms will drive you back to the dock just as the bite wanes. After the storms are over, head back out again for some great earl...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 10.11.10

Report Date: October 9, 2010   This week has been a success fishing the gulfside. Considering the minus 3 and 4 tides, the snook were around in numbers. Once the mullett leave, and the colder water arrives, the water will clear up. Right now wth the NNE winds to 15, it's kept it stirred up, along with the mullet.   Considering all factors involved, we caught 1 oversize snook, many in the 3-6 pound range, reds, trout, pompano, mackeral, and just way too many lady f...

FISHING REPORT BY   CAPT. BECKY CAMPBELL 239-695-2029 Everglades City, Florida   Oil Spill....seems to be on everybody's mind lately and so it should.   Has it affected the Everglades? NO Can we smell the oil? NO Can we see it on the water? NO Is it effecting the fishing? NO   Remember Florida is a long way from Louisiana and we are down at the southern part of the state and 100+ miles from the gulf stream. So with this in is the fish...

Chokoloskee Bay Fishing Report 09.15.09

Everglades City, Chokoloskee, Everglades National Park Report Every charter this past week proved very productive. Small baits have loaded up on the nearshore flats, and provoked frenzies everywhere you look. You can see huge flocks of birds from far distances hitting the boiling water. The birds are eating the small baits that the ladyfish & trout have balled up on the surface. Cast into these boils and get yourself some nice ladyfish for bait. Cut up the ladyfish for snook and reds! Th...
