Everything is Biting

Back to Wisconsin in another week.  The ice is off all the lakes already, and great reports of fantastic fishing.  Well the wind has settled down a little and fishing (catching) hasB really improved.  Weather conditions have allowed most to fish their favorite spots.  The Bull Reds, Black Drum and trout are there for the catching.  Popping corks with either rubber or live bait is producing.  Crabs are still the number one bait for the big Reds and Black Drum.&n...

Monster Black Drum

Spent four days fishing out of Boudrouxs Marina in Cocodrie Louisiana.  The big Bull Drum were really on a bite.  Crabs fished on #9 circle hooks with a slip sinker rig.  We were targeting the marsh points that had currenet either from the wind or tide.  Either anchor or use your power pole to hold you about 100 to 150 feet off the point.  Set your baits, and wait.  You can cast while your live bait is on the bottom.  We caught fish casting a Spitting Imag...

Reds & Black Drum

Catching some real nice Bull Reds right now, with a few Black Drum thrown in.  The bite has been on crabs right now.  Typical bottom rig with a slip sinker 6/0 to 9/0 circle hook.  Playing the tide or wind currents off the marsh islands.  Dropping an anchor then setting a couple of bottom rigs.  We are also picking up fish casting while anchored.  If you like to fly fish it's a great time to do it.  Never know what you will catch.  Some of the big...

Reds & Sheepshead

The cold front that has moved through Louisiana may have passed.  A couple of mornings in the high 20's & low 30's.  Fishing for Sheepshead and Reds has slowed a little, but they are still being caught on live bait.  Crabs, shrimp and oysters are the best.  A difficult fish to catch because of the light bite.  A little practice and almost anyone can put a limit in the boat.  I am mostly catch and release, but will keep a few smaller fish for eating....
