Lake Erie Walleye Fishing
The 2012 season is upon us, weather is a little unsettled right now, but walleye fishing continues to improve. Walleyes are being taken around Kelleys Island in 22 to 30 ft of water and between D can and Niagara Reef in 22 to 32 feet of water. Casting weapons tipped with half a crawler and bottom bouncers one to two cranks off the bottom are working well.
I expect the fishing to continue to improve as the water temperatures rise. Now is the time to plan a fishing trip to Lake Erie ...

Poor weather conditions has limited Lake Erie fishing.
Poor weather has limited Lake Erie fishing opportunities over the past few week (as of 3-13-12). A nice warm up with limited rain is in the ten day forecast, which should give everyone a opportunity to get some early fishing in.
The lake is still muddy from the storms and high winds over the past few weeks. Those who have gotten out have caught some fish jigging the reef areas.
The water temperature is 36 degrees off of Toledo and 34 degrees off of Cleveland according to the nearsho...
Lake Erie / Mild Winter / No Ice
February, generally means ice fishing in our area. Unforunately, thus far for all the ice fishmen and women it just hasn't happen yet.
Our spring like weather and no ice have brought many hardy fisherman to area boat ramps throughout the area.. Last Thursday, I counted 15 trailers parked at the new Huron Boat Ramp in Huron, OH. Can't report on how the fishing was, but it was great seeing so many out trying at this time of the year.
The unseasonable warm winter has made all o...

5-26-2011 FOM lake Erie news
Hello Crew,
I wish this first news letter had some good news but read on.
Memorial weekend has always been the best weekend for the walleye out west and then the migration triggers as water temps rise. This year is a first for the holiday weekend being messed up.
This weather has been a slow start for the walleye. Due to all the rains and mud.
I have talked to many Captains on the west end and pro tournament anglers daily. The walleye are no...

Hard Water
I flew over to Kelleys Island this week. As far as one could see, nothing but hard water (ice). The local islanders have been ice fishing since the first week in January with sporadic reports of excellent to not so good catches.
Now for the better news and the reason I am submitting this report at this time. The ice should be gone by the middle of March and by April the fishing will begin. April is a great month for the jig fisherman around the reef areas and shoreline. May, post...

Perch Fishing
Fished over the weekend South and West of Kelly's Island. Lots of boats! Seems like there were boats all the way up to the the shoals north of the island. Anyhow - perch were biting but couldn't find the larger ones. We ended up keeping around 35, but they were smaller than we liked them to be. Regardless was nice on the lake. Next outing will be focusing on Walleye - will post back results....

WALLEYES AND PERCH ARE BEING CAUGHT EAST OF KELLEYS ISLAND
The walleyes seems to have made there move east to deeper waters early this year than others, probably due to the warmer spring weather.
Most anglers and charters for the past few weeks are fishing five to six miles east of Kelleys Island in 40 to 41 feet of water. Mayfly rigs and Erie Dearies are being fished at a 15 to 20 count. Since the Mayfly hatch many fish are being taken on a 3 to five count.
Most anglers have been satisfied with the quality of fish, but...

Lake Erie - Kelleys Island Report
When weather has allowed the best walleye fishing has been between South Bass Island and Kelleys Island including the shoals and from east of Kelleys Island to Vermilion in 30 to 45 feet of water. Most fish have been caught by trollers using crank baits. Night fishing has been hit and miss from the shore, but have had many reports of excellent catches at night off of Kelleys and the Huron area.
Fishing for yellow perch has been very good, again when weathe...

Our weather the last few weeks has been exceptionally good for this time of year. Only a few days the last few weeks that conditions have not been ideal.
Perch fishing has been very good, most trips we are catching limits of 8 to 12 inch perch with a few 13 inch perch. Winds permitting we are fishing east and northeast of Kelleys Island in 40 to 43 feet of water using spreaders tip with Lake Erie Shinners. Also, good catches are being taken west of Green and Rattle Snake Island.

Lake Erie Kelleys Island, OH Report
"Yellow Perch" Good to limit catches of yellow perch are being taken around Kelleys Island in 22 to 42 feet of water using spreaders tipped with Lake Erie Shiners. We limited this week on Friday with 125 perch in 2 1/2 hours. The perch averaged 8 to 9 inches with a number of 11 to 12 inch jumbos. These fish are being taken close to the island which allows for less travel time and more fishing time.

Walleye fishing has improved around the island areas the last couple of weeks, but unfortunately the last few trips out have been somewhat slower. August generally brings slower fishing for walleye due to the heat. Perch fishing, improves at this time of the year and many anglers switch over for a day of perch fishing to fill there freezers with the tastiest fish (yellow perch) from the lake.
Combo trips are popular this time of the year. Go for a cooler of perch and then switch over for a f...
Mon, Jun 15, 2009 - Park Schafer / Kelleys Island Fishing ChartersThe best fishing continues to be around the Islands, including west of North Bass, Northwest Reef, and both north and east of Kelleys Island in forty feet of water. Drifters are using worm harnesses with bottom bouncers and casting weapons tipped with crawlers. Most fish are being caught in the 20 to 10 foot range. The May fly hatch is in full swing which often brings the fish up from the bottom to feed. The majority of the fis...

This last week we have experienced excellent to fair catches of Walleye and Perch. The weather, as always during this time of year, has been a factor. When the conditions are right the fishing has been good. Walleye - Gull Island Shoal North of Kelleys has been productive with many very nice catches. The areas West of Mouse Island, D Can, and Niagara Reef have also been productive. Perch - Reports of good size Perch are being taken off the Airport East of kelleys Island. We should be experienci...
Fishing is in full swing around the Island with excellent catches of walleyes being caught when weather permits. The kelleys Island Ferry is full, with anxious fishermen from all over the country hoping to land the big one. Fish are being taken by trolling and drifting NE of the Island, between Middle Island and North Bass Island and off the reefs North of Kelleys. The predicted warm up for the coming week should improve the fishing as the water gradually begins to warm up. We are lookin...

We are waiting for the ice to go away after a very good ice fishing season. The ice is starting to break up and we are seeing open water. We need some days of above 40's temperatures, sun and wind to finish the job.Generally, we look forward to getting some early out fishing by mid to late March with mid April being productive for monster walleyes around the reefs off of Kelleys Island. By May the walleye activity picks up and fishing remains strong through July.If you are planning to take adv...
