Located in southern Osceola County a few miles west of the town of Kenansville, Lake Marian is a component of the Kissimmee Chain, an assemblage of lakes (some very large) which are associated with the Kissimmee River. The Kissimmee flows southward into the north end of Lake Okeechobee, and thus helps form the headwaters of the Florida Everglades. Lake Marian is connected via the Jackson Canal to 988-acre Lake Jackson, which in turn connects to much larger Lake Kissimmee (30,545 acres). Much of the north and west shores of Lake Marian, most of the shore of Lake Jackson, and the southeastern shore of Lake Kissimmee all lie within the Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission's 50,393-acre Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area. The central portion of this area, called the Prairie Lakes Unit, is said to contain the largest concentration of bald eagle nests in the continental United States.
The major land uses around Lake Marian are improved and unimproved pasture and rangeland. In addition, there are smaller areas comprised of citrus groves, low- and medium density residential developments, and natural prairie, marsh, and pine flatwoods.
