Description:
Lake Michigan salmon fishing is some of the best fishing in the world, and Southeastern Wisconsin is one of the best places on Lake Michigan for salmon charter fishing. Throughout May to mid-June, Coho Salmon are the most prevalent fish. These salmon range from 2-8 pounds and are excellent eating fish. Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Lake Trout will also be found during this period. The Rainbow (or Steelhead) Trout are also very tasty and put on a great aerobatic show. During mid-June the Chinook Salmon begin to appear in numbers. The Chinook, or King Salmon are generally between 12-20 pounds for mature fish, sometimes clearing 30 pounds, will put up a tremendous fight, and make a great meal.

Cold water and unsettled weather has turned on the fish. As of two days ago action was fantastic but this may all change on east gales. Eight to Twelve foot waves yesterday shut down any opportunity to get out and time will tell how the lake will respond after the blow. My guess is the fish wont be affected significantly and will stay in the 55 to 100 feet of water. The big 20 pound Chinooks have been slow and may be done for this season. To g...

The temperature break to 50 degrees is at least 100 feet down. The deepest we have caught fish is 145 feet down with the majority of our fish coming 95 to 130 feet down. This is my recommendation for location after the gale force wind. Head out 80 degrees from the north gap and set up in 100 feet of water. Check the down temperature and key on 50 degrees. Use Fish Fry Magnum Glow Spoons at first light working lines at all depths.

Early May fishing has been medium at best. Were taking a mixed bag of Chinooks, Coho and Brown Trout. You may target your species by working the temps the fish like.
The Milwaukee harbor and gaps are holding the best Brown Trout fishing. This warm water fish is finding the best temp where the water flows out of the harbor. All size spoons in orange and silver are working also the Nestor Wobbler Sun Burn Glow has been a regular producer.

Fish Report 4/19/2010 Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan By Capt. Jim Hirt
April fishing is very good. Most of our charter trips are catching limits on Lake Trout with a few Browns. Clear skies with the wind out of the west at 15-25 mph have been the norm. The water flowing into Milwaukee harbor is 58 degrees.
We have been fishing the temp breaks in front of the river mouth and harbor gaps and north of Milwaukee in 35 to 50 feet of water. Lots of bait fish around.
Our best presentations are 3,4,5,and 6 color Cortland lead core and...
Lake Michigan Report
Fishing is starting off on fire for the spring.
Brown and lake trout have been biting for a month.
Perch have just started to bite and it looks to be a good salmon year.
We have been concentrating on warm water areas for trout. Jigging with plastics has been productive, but the trolling bite will kick in soon.
Good luck and see you on the water.

The boat landings at the head of the lake in the township of Dekorra are now open. Dewey Schultz & I spent Saturday morning chiseling away ice to improve access for bigger boats. We launched my 18" lund for the 2010 maiden voyage around 9:00am and fished till 1:30pm. The fishing was slow but we did manage two saugers and two smallies. Biggest sauger went 21-1/2" long.
Our efforts at the boat launch were for naught though. Someone brought in an end loader and p...

Gale force winds will change everything.
The water temperature will be the key to finding fish on your next trip out. As of Sunday morning the warm water is in and the fish were out. A temperature break was in 100 to 140 feet of water. The best action for Chinooks was 55 to 120 down. Magnum spoons the best option for all size fish. Jeff and Andy Georgin of Cincinnati had a great morning with some nice Chinooks.
