Description:

Lake Okeechobee is located in central southern Florida, North of the Everglades and south of Orlando. Lake Okeechobee links the Atlantic and Gulf sides of Florida via the Port Mayaca Lock on the east side of the lake and the Moore Haven Lock on the lake's western side.Lake Okeechobee is approximately 37 miles long by 30 miles wide. over 700 square miles.

Lake Okeechobee is the second largest freshwater lake in the United States. The 730 square mile lake is located in south central Florida. It is shallow (average depth 9 feet or 2.7 meters) and provides an ideal habitat for bass.

The “Big O” is the place to go if you want to catch big bass. It is a fisherman’s paradise. You can expect to tangle with 7-10 pound bass. The lake record is 15 pounds 5 ounces. While fishing is very good year-round it is particularly spectacular during spawning season.

Lake Okeechobee has a number of famous fishing areas including the Monkey Box, Moonshine Bay, Fisheating Creek, Hay Fields, and the Cow Pasture.

We strongly promote a "catch and release" policy for all bass caught in Lake Okeechobee.

Aquatic vegetation:

Mainly bulrush, eelgrass, and knotgrass.

Cover/Structure:

Largemouth bass fishing should be best on the outside edges of the shoreline vegetation (mainly bulrush, eelgrass, and knotgrass).

Tips/Tactics:

Try spoons and spinner baits in the grass flats, and plastic worms and flipping jigs in the heaver cover. Florida wild shiners are the preferred bait for trophy bass and it is a natural food that they feed on daily here.

April 23rd 2012

Bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee has been off the wall with big fishing being caught almost every day, but the water level is starting to head south and that means you will want to start to be careful where you run a boat. The winter season here on the lake couldn’t have been better and as long as we can keep some water in the lake for next season it should be even better. Local tournaments on the lake are taking over thirty pounds to win and I look for this to increase to alm...

This Week on Okeechobee

The fishing for bass on Lake Okeechobee continues to be awesome and it doesn’t seem like it is going to slow down anytime soon. The water level is at 12.59 feet above sea level and going down but still a foot higher then it was last year at this time. The bass have spawned and are still spawning on the outside...

Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report

As the month of February flies by here on Okeechobee the bass fishing has been best described as awesome. Catching thirty to forty bass a day on wild shiners is no problem and the artificial bite has been almost as good. Most of the bass seem to be still on the outside grass close to the main lake, with a few bass in different areas moving in to spawn and than moving right back out to the outside. My clients have been having the time of there life catching bass and I can't even begin to...

Spawn to Post Spawn bite

The "bite" is still real good on the Lake. We are picking up a lot of 2 and 3 pound bass fishing artificial baits in the gass and around weed edges. Unbelievable bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee

Bass fishing on the North end of the Lake Okeechobee has been as steady and as predictable as we've ever seen. Artificial baits are accounting for large numbers of bass daily. Top water baits, flukes, skinny dippers and senkos, have been working daily. Most days artificial baits will outperform live bait, especially for numbers , shiners however do account for more of the big bass that are caught than artificials. We have fished areas in the past week that we have not fished this year and rega...

March Big Bass Lake Okeechobee

Springtime on Lake Okeechobee is a favorite time of year for many anglers, aside from the fact that the cold weather has departed, fishing for bass, blue gill and shell cracker is at its peak. Bassin the Big "O"

Great fishing is not limited to one area of Lake Okeechobee right now, with every area of the lake holding large numbers of bass. From Lock 7 on the Northern tip of the lake, traveling West all the way to Observation Shoal, bass are being located and caught. This weekend was the first time since last spring that a jacket was required during our morning run to our first fishing spot. September Bass Fishing

As summer continues around Lake Okeechobee, so too does the great fishing. This summer continues to impress, the habitat has returned to a level that has not been seen on Okeechobee for many years. Bird life abounds, which has long been considered a barometer for the state of the lake's health. On any given day it is possible to see Eagles, Ospreys, Herons and many other kinds of bird life as they hunt for food in the lake. Catching Summer Bass on Lake Okeechbobee!

It has been a tremendous summer on Lake Okeechobee, the bass fishing (catching) has been better this year than in many years. The sheer numbers of bass are incredible.  Anglers that like to fish artificial baits are catching 30 to 50 bass per trip. Big Bass are being caught by anglers using a flipping and pitching technique in the heavier cover areas. A paca craw, sweet beaver or any other type of creature bait will draw strikes in the thick stuff. The native vegetation has returned to La...

The temperature is anywhere from the high 60's to the low 70's, depending on the wind and rain. The fishing has stayed consistent, with some very nice catches coming in.
