New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 04.01.17

Springtime backcountry catching is in full swing here at Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River, water temperatures have risen through the 60’s to the low 70’s bringing the migration of game fish through the area, jack crevalle, bluefish, ladyfish, pompano, bait fish like mullet, glass minnows and pilchards. Resident fish seatrout, redfish, sheepshead, snappers, and black drum also feeding on the bait schools and the local shrimp which run here in spring, making a live shrimp hard to...

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 11.17.13

Daytona Beach to Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Josiah with a nice size Redfish Most sportsmen are in the woods for hunting season putting very little pressure on the fish.  It has been a little windy this week keeping most off the water. We managed to get out and catch a few snook, redfish, black drum and trout this week. We caught our snook in the mangroves on the north end of the lagoon. Most of them are small but a lot of fun on lite tackle. We pitched Gulp sinking minnows at...

March 23rd, 2013 Orlando Saltwater Fishing Guide Report   We are not that much further from summer now! I do not know about the rest of you but I cannot wait, warm summer breezes, afternoon storms, longer days. The feel of that summer sun on your skin is what Florida is all about. The warm months send chills throughout the backcountry flats and will bring on some of the best fishing here in east central Florida yet to arrive. It will not be long until tarpon begin to show up al...

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 11.20.12

November 20th, 2012 Mosquito Lagoon Light Tackle Fishing Report   Well it has been a trying year in many aspects however the great fall to winter time inshore flats fishing has arrived here in east central Florida on the Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River. The backcountry waters of the north Indian River Lagoon system, the Mosquito Lagoon and all of the waters connecting these here in the Titusville, Cocoa Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Oak Hill and Edgewater areas have cleared up...

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 08.23.12

School is starting, fall is coming next month, the end of another summer here on Mosquito Lagoon Florida. The beginning of the slower tourist season means less boat traffic, cooling water temperatures, and I am looking forward to the autumn fishing pattern to start. This last month has been challenging at times, August heat along with the cloudy water brought on by heavy rain early in the summer, but we have had many great Redfish & Seatrout trips fishing the grass flats, slo...

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 07.23.12

July 2012 is winding down here on Mosquito Lagoon and we are having another fun summer of fishing here in East Central Florida. Lots of Redfish and Seatrout catching during the last several weeks. Our water levels rose very high and have fallen back low again after Tropical Storm Debby sat over the area for almost a week last month, giving us a 5 day rain event, leaving in her wake a cloudy water fishing pattern. Live and cut bait has been the best bet for catching our target spe...

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 02.03.12

Well now that we are into the New Year of 2012 here in east central Florida and great weather is amongst us the flats fishing of the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River has taken of tremendously here in the New Smyrna Beach, Titusville and Oak Hill areas of central Florida. Sight fishing the backcountry flats of the national park and refuge has begun to improve quite a bit, with water clarity getting into the optimal range it should be for this time of year and just outstanding days to fish in...

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 01.11.12

Another fun year of fishing has begun here on Mosquito Lagoon Florida. So far this January 2012 has seen great weather conditions with cool mornings and some fairly warm days, schooling Redfish have been great fun sight fishing targets, casting select size live shrimp to the visible waking and pushing fish on the shallow flats. Most of these Reds are in the slot size up to 27” with a few fish over the slot being caught also. Winter pattern has most all the fish bunched up t...

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 12.22.11

Here it is the 3rd week of December and we are still having 75 to 80 degree days, the warm weather has kept our fishing pattern in a late fall transition pattern with winter cold water not quite here yet. We do have small schools of quality Redfish up to 28 or more  inches and loose knit groups near mullet schools. Seatrout catching has been good during this closed season month, the open season starts again on New Years Day. We have had some great sight fishing for Reds on t...

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 03.10.11

Spring has arrived early this March 2011 in East Central Florida, water levels are up on Mosquito Lagoon as well as water temperatures. Redfish schools have spread out through the flats among the islands in the northern Lagoon with the higher water. Schools of bait fish are starting to return from the south and along with them migrating game fish coming back into our backcountry area. We are also having a great early spring Seatrout bite, along with Bluefish, Ladyfish, and also a few Flounder....

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 07.23.10

Well summer is most definitely here. Where was this 7 months ago. Right! This weather by far is much more acceptable than the cold snap here of 2010 that occurred. I welcome this weather year round. I am sure most of us would agree with this too. With that said the fishing the past several weeks has been outstanding. Epic days for sure. With the days being extremely hot out your best bet by far is to start early to beat the heat and finish before it is too hot out to enjoy the day. Start way b...

New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report 03.04.10

The fishing on the Mosquito Lagoon these last few weeks has been good. If you get out between these winter time cold fronts, the redfish have been cooperating quite nicely. Florida’s weather has continued to be some of the strangest I can remember, but large schools of Red?sh have been found all over the Indian River system this month. Black Drum also continue to make their presence known tailing happily most days. My last week of trips have been spent in the Edgewater and New S...
