Sunset Park is located at the corner of Eastern Avenue and Sunset Road in Las Vegas, adjacent to McCarran Airport and approximately 3 miles east of Highway I-15. Park entrance roads are located on both Sunset Road and Eastern Avenue and ample vehicle parking is available at the north and south ends of the pond.

Sunset Park Pond is located within Sunset Park in the southeastern Las Vegas Valley, near McCarran International Airport. The site is managed by the Clark County Parks and Recreation Department. The pond has provided urbanfishing opportunities for over 20 years.

Sunset Park Pond is approximately 14 acres in size and has a maximum depth of between 10 and 12 feet. The entire shoreline of the reservoir is accessible for angling, although parts of the southwest shoreline may be closed to fishing during model boat events. Water is supplied from wells, so water quality is good and clarity high, although minor algae blooms can occur seasonally. The pond is accessible for fishing during open park hours, but is closed during the times posted at the park entrances.

The primary game fish species in Sunset Park Pond are rainbow trout and channel catfish. Catchable-sized fish of both species are stocked seasonally. Other species present include bluegill, redear sunfish, black crappie and largemouth bass. These species are not regularly stocked, but fish habitat placed in the pond provides cover for reproduction and recruitment of the warmwater fish species.

No overnight camping is allowed at Sunset Park. Improved day use areas with picnic tables and barbecues are available on a first-come first-served basis. There is no fee for park access.

Season is open year round, during park open hours only. The limit daily and in possession is a total of 3 fish of any species in combination. The use of live bait is prohibited in Sunset Park Pond.

Boats and other flotation devices, including float tubes, are prohibited on Sunset Park Pond.

Small spinners, still baits such as salmon eggs, and fly fishing can all be effective for rainbow trout; small jigs or earthworms are suggested for panfish such as bluegill and redear sunfish.

The use of live bait is prohibited in Sunset Park Pond.
