Description:

Surrounded by deep forests and rolling fields, West Point Lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River on the Alabama-Georgia state line. The lake's 525 miles of shoreline provides excellent opportunities for fishing, camping, boating and other recreational activities.Fishing is probably the most popular activity on West Point Lake. A dozen creeks and more than 40 square miles of lake provide plenty of good fishing spots for the thousands of anglers who fish here regularly. The lake abounds with bass, catfish, crappie and bream. Bank fishing is excellent at many locations, including public fishing piers at Hardley Creek Park, Rocky Point Park, and McGee Bridge Park. All of the piers provide access for persons with disabilities. Preteens and visitors with disabilities can also fish in a pond at Hardley Creek Park.

With its 525 miles of shoreline and 25,900 surface acres, West Point Lake is a boater's paradise. There are boat launching ramps located in 34 public recreation areas (including 4 leased areas) around the lake. Some ramps charge a $3 boat launch fee. Two privately operated marinas provide fuel, storage, boat repair, rentals, supplies and other boater's needs.

Whether your preference is sailing, wind surfing, or power boating, West Point Lake is the place to be!!!

The Corps of Engineers operates and maintains five campgrounds at West Point Lake. Registered campers are entitled to the full use of campground facilities such as grills and tables, dump stations, laundries and showers.

Four of the Corps campgrounds are "fee campgrounds" with resident park attendants. The fifth (Ringer Campground) has no fee. Many of the fee campgrounds also offer boat ramps, fish cleaning stations, playgrounds, ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and nature trails.

Fishing cover/structure:

Surrounded by deep forests, piers, brush, coves, channels, ledges.

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 5.76 FEET, DIRTY & 53 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 5.76 FEET, DIRTY & 53 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL   Bass fishing has been good. Fish have really been scattered with the changes in water level and temperatures. Fish can move as quickly as they pull into an area. Most of this change is related to bait movement. Our best pattern has been running main lake points and secondary points within pockets with mid depth crank baits in craw...

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 5.84 FEET, DIRTY & 52 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL   Bass fishing has been good. Patterns have remained consistent this week with continuous cool evenings and periodic rain. Offshore hotspots on spotted bass have continued to produce with drop shot rigs and jigging spoons. If largemouth are your focus you are going to need to cover a lot of water with shallow crank baits and spinnerbaits. Look for red clay points and rocky banks with sunlight on them most o...

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 12.34 FEET, STAINED & 54 DEGREES

Bass fishing has been great. This is the time to catch a lot of fish. Numbers are easy to catch with the cooler temperatures and low water. Lake conditions right now are really low. Use extreme caution when navigating the lake right now. With the lower water stay within channel markers when navigating areas that you are not familiar with. The best ramps still available are located at Yellow Jacket Creek access. These conditions although difficult to run have made for some great winter time...

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 11.93 FEET, STAINED & 60 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL Bass fishing has been good. Fishing has been picking up as temperatures have cooled and look for fish to go on their a few more weeks of a major feed going into our winter months. With lower water and cooler water temps the jigging spoon bite has really picked up. For numbers move offshore to West Points many humps and road beds with a jigging spoon and drop shot rig. For your jigging s...

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 11.1 FEET, STAINED & 75 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL       Bass fishing has been good. Fishing has continued to pick up with the recent cooler temperatures. With the cooler temperatures and low water conditions have concentrated fish on just about any shoreline cover available. Fish can be caught on many different patterns right now dependent on current weather conditions. On windy days use a 3/8 ounce spinnerbait in a chartreuse white color...

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 10.8 FEET, STAINED & 83 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL       Bass fishing has been good. There has been little change over the last week. More fish are beginning to concentrate themselves near shallow cover lake wide. A few more cool nights and the lake should really turn on. Continue to cover water with shallow crankbaits until you approach cover such as a lay down or brush pile. The best crankbait has been Bandit 200 series in a sha...

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 10.2 FEET, STAINED & 86 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL       Bass fishing has been better this week. We are finally experiencing some cooler temperatures which has caused some fish to pull up. The majority of the larger fish are positioned on humps and road beds lake wide, but there are a few fish showing up on shallow points and pockets. For the offshore bite use mid depth crankbaits in a shad pattern as fish begin to reposition o...

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 6.1 FEET, STAINED & 49 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL         Bass fishing has been tough. A little stain in the water will turn on the crank bait bite this week. The only bites we are getting is to cover as many red clay and rock points as possible during the day with mid depth crankbaits in a shad pattern. Use a Bomber 4A and Bandit crankbaits. You are going to have to cover a lot of water. Five to ten bites in a day is a good day with current...

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 7.8 FEET, STAINED & 41 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL

Bass fishing has been fair. Fish bit a little better this week with water color and warmer temperatures. We look for fishing to improve this week with expected warmer temperatures. Use small crankbaits on red clay and rock points near the main river channel. You will have to cover a lot of water but this will produce bigger fish. Stick with shad patterns such as a Rapala Shad Rap or Bomber 6A in threadfin shad. Our best secondary bite has been on humps and roadbeds in Wehadkee and Maple creeks...
