Spot Description:
Garie Beach is the only surfing beach in the Royal National Park, south of Sydney that is accessible by car. The are about 180 parking spaces. Garie Beach is accessible via Garie Road, and has a carpark. But there's more to Garie than just a wonderful beach. For starters, it's a popular fishing spot. It's also a stop along the 26 kilometre Coast Walk, which means that there is some spectacular bushwalking to be done. If you head north, you will reach a breathtaking lookout after 20-30 minutes; it is then about six kilometres to Wattamolla. If you head south, you will immediately encounter some charming Depression-era shacks, before climbing several lovely green hills and crossing a couple of beaches. The most spectacular sight, though, comes after approximately four kilometres- the enthralling stretch of palm forest that is Burning Palms. Back at the beach, the recently-renovated amenities block will ensure that your day out remains as civilised as possible. There's a picnic area, a large toilet/shower block and (during the season) a kiosk.
