My Name is Captain Ed Bussard and I am the owner of Bass Challenger Guide Service. I started guiding clients at the age of 18 out of a fish camp called Osteen Bridge Fishcamp on the St Johns River.
Before guiding I was a dock hand for two years on weekends and during the summer months when I was not attending school. It is now 30 years later and at the age of 48 I still make my living on the water as a full time guide. Many things have changed in 30 years but the one thing that hasn't is my desire to see the smile on my clients faces each time they catch a fish aboard my boat.
A proven tournament fisherman, Eddie has competed in the B.A.S.S. Tournament Trail, Operation Bass's FLW, Everstart, and Wal-Mart BFL tournaments.
This has given him the ability to quickly locate fish that are active under all kinds of conditions.
Eddie has also spent alot of time working with handicapped individuals who want to join in on the thrill of the bass fishing sport.
His one passion in life is working with kids and teaching them how to fish and enjoy the outdoors. He will generate memories for youngsters that will last a lifetime.

Things haven't changed much the past week. Were still catching lots of fish on Artificial Baits on just about every trip. Some days 15 other days 50 in 4 to 6 hours. The only problem we are having is keeping the BIG BASS on and landing them. Fishing on the St Johns River is steady and the big fish are biting very well. We had to deal with some winds the past couple days but that's the great thing about fishing the St Johns River no matter what the winds are were still be safe and catch fish.

The past two weeks we have seen the fish in their summer patterns here on the St Johns River. Flipping main river pads has been affective in both early and late morning as well as fishing the main river ledges with a crankbait and texas rigged worm. With Tropical Storm Bonnie skirting Central Florida we were able to get on the water and enjoy a not so hot day with a nice NE breeze. The past week I have had clients wanting to fish for numbers of fish and not really spend time fishing for Trophy Bass. We have stuck with the main River schooling fish and have put numbers in the boat on each trip with most days boating 15 to 25 fish each day up to 7 pounds.
The shad are still thick in the main River and the Bass are ambushing these shad on main river shell beds. Shell beds in the middle of the main Channel have been the best by far.
