April 13-18- 2012

The fishing has been pretty good the last 2 weeks, I have caught good numbers of Snook and Redfish from Flamingo to Marco Island.   April 13-14- 2012   I pre fished on Friday and fished the Backwater series tourn on Saturday out of Calusa Marina in Goodland. I was with partners Mitch and Bruce scouting a spot a found a couple weeks ago on a charter. We worked the area and caught 4 fish @10 lbs., I figured we could get up to 11 lbs. The spot was relatively close to...

April 2012

This past week the winds let down finally and we were able to get in some quality fishing days.   040712   Today I fished with the Hernandez 's at Flamingo we had a good day catching 2 Snook, 30 Redfish some Trout, Jacks and Ladyfish. The day was going fine until the 30 mph winds shut down the fishing.   041012   I am with Art and Mitch in Government Cut tonight, these guys had a good time and it started with a bottle of Tequila! Some...

04/04/12

I am with Henry and his son Hank and Luke and friend Julio. We started out in Government Cut for Tarpon and had several bites early on using live mullet but the fish missed the bait. We moved into the cut and fished shrimp on the bottom and almost immediately had a double hook up. Julio Had a nice gag grouper which has to be released and Luke had a Scorpion fish. We had a few grunts and then Julio didn't look so good and he was sick! It don't happen often fishing the cut but if a gu...

I thanks all my customers for letting me guide them to some fun fishing days. Miami Beach       We have had some good catches in bad weather from Tarpon hook ups in big swells in Government Cut to 15 lb. Jack Crevalles inside the bay. Report Feb & March 2012

022912 I am fishing with the Wegnar brothers today Bob, Ken and Ron at Flamingo. I started out in Whitewater Bay and the first few spot were not productive, we made it up to a Trout spot and got into them really good. On every cast at least 2 of 3 guys were hooked up with keeper size Trout jack or ladyfish. This was a good warm up but Bob wanted Tarpon for his visiting brothers. I ran around looking for Tarpon and eventually found them on the coast but they were scattered a...

Out going tides and shrimp runs!

021612 This afternoon I am fishing the Yamaha guys here for the boat show, I have Kurt and Ritchie and we are out for Tarpon. Both guys are experienced so we caught alot of fish while waiting for the Tarpon to turn on. They caught Snappers, Groupers and a big Shhephead and eventually both did battle with big Tarpon. 021912 I am with Mark and Ronny out of Haulover looking for Tarpon, we caught some Mackerel and Blue Runners. Mark caught a 70 lb Tarpon which was the only fish I sa...

Early spring

020612 I am back up and running after a motor issue, Yamaha/Bob Hewes Boats took care of it as they always do. The weather is warm here, 80's for the last couple weeks. This means the Tarpon are getting into a early spring time pattern which is great, any time we can get into a more Tarpon it's good. There has been a pretty good Snook, Redfish and Trout bite going on as well down at Flamingo. Miami beach has Tarpon from Haulover to Government Cut on the beaches and the inl...

110511     I am with Scott Young and his girlfriend BB, fishing out of Haulover Marina In North Miami Beach today. We started out netting pilchards, there were some Mackerels and Jacks chasing bait so we caught a few. BB was inexperienced but scot is a good angler. We fished bridges, sea walls, flats and rock piles in the bay chumming up a little bit of everything. The Jacks were incredibly thick and kept us busy, by the end of the day they caught 50 Jacks,...

Fishing Report

102411   I am part of a corporate trip today out of Haulover Marina. I have Mary Ann and Tavin on board, we left around PM and had to be back at 4 PM. I decided to stay close and fished up in Dumbfoundling Bay, I had a live well full of pilchards to chum with. I made a pass thru the bay and saw a bunch of Jacks chasing bait so I tossed out a handful of freebies. It didn't take long and we had the Jacks exploding, Tevin was first up catching a 2 pounder. The Tarpon were rolling but it...

Capt Jimbo Report 10/14/2011

101211   I am with Sam Rose this morning he has his friend Peter over from England. We started out in Government Cut drifting mullet through the Tarpon rolling on the south side, we only had one bite so I decided to run back into the bay. Peter had only fished twice in his life so Sam wanted to bend the rods some. The mullet schools were getting busted up by Jacks, Ladyfish, Bluefish and Trout and we caught them for close to 2 hours straight. Sam had the fish of the morning, a really...

091711   I am with John Riordan and his 2 small daughters Katy and Kelly, we started out casting at some rolling Tarpon. This only lasted about an hour because the girls wanted to catch fish and weren't fishing their dad was. I netted some finger mullet and put a couple out we had 3 hits with no catches, all bait came back scaled as if it were Tarpon. We ran down to the grass flats and put out a chum block and got the fish turned on. These girls are between 5 and 7 years old I guess a...

Fishing Report September 2011

091011   I am fun fishing today out of Haulover Marina with my son James and friends Jesus and Bruce. We started out in the inlet chasing some Mullet schools looking for Tarpon and eventually moved into the inter coastal. There are plenty of Mullet getting busted up by Jacks, Ladyfish, Cuda's and Trout which we caught in good numbers. We hooked a handful Tarpon on lures and a couple on live Mullet, we didn't land any but the kids had a great time. There's allot going on right now just...

090411   I am at Flamingo with George Shipley today looking for some big bites! The tides out front this morning are a 4.4 which is really a big tide, but not unusual for Sept.. The winds were S.W at 15 so the crowd was light. I netted some mullet right off the bat and hit a couple spot in front of Flamingo. It didn't take long and we had a Tarpon all over the mullet, the mullet was running for his life and jumping to get away. He did a good job because the Tarpon lost interest so we...

06/25/11   I am fishing out of Haulover marina in N. Miami Beach with John, his wife Kris and there daughters Katy and Kelly. John made it clear they were 6 and 8 years old so we needed to stay in calm waters. We started out on the Trout flats and caught a few keepers along with a big Mangrove Snapper. We had the girls casting and hooking fish on their own by 9 o'clock. Katy is the older one, she had it down and went to work catching plenty of Trout, Cuda's and Jacks. John was having...

May Report

05-11-11   I am with Randy and Jen from Dallas fishing @ Government Cut for Tarpon this afternoon. I netted some mullet and went to work, I like mullet when we get out early. The Tarpon responded and put on an aerial show. When using Mullet they aren't all great hook ups, there's allot of knock downs and misses. The Tarpon would knock the baits out of the water and then the Barracudas would cut them in half. It is interesting the first few times but when they eat all your bait it gets...

The Tarpon

The Tarpon are still in and around Government Cut but the have been moving south for a while now. They are more active down on the outside flats in south Biscayne Bay right now.     Tarpon action has been pretty good down at Flamingo, the fish have been in the channels and out in the Gulf of Mexico. They are there in pretty good numbers.   5-2-11   I am with Scott and Liz this morning fishing Government Cut and Biscayne Bay. It is a breezy morning which made t...

Caught Lookin Charters Report

Flamingo area       I fished the Gulf of Mexico for Tarpon on Sunday and they were around in good numbers but scattered. When we did get into the them they just weren't interested. Karl, Jim and Sue worked hard but it seemed like the bite was south of Cape Sable on this day and I ran North. I spoke to several people at the dock who seemed to have good luck from First National Bank and south. Karl had some Big Trout on Sebille lures the biggest over 5 lbs.I fished with Jo...

01-14-11   I am with Rick, Dave and Mike today at Flamingo. I fished with them last year out of Haulover right after the freeze for Tarpon, we had a good night. They wanted to try something different so I suggested the back country. We left the dock @ 7 AM and temps were 47 degrees! It was a cold ride into the back country even for these guys from Ohio. We worked around the back country and got into a pretty good bite of Snook, Trout, Ladyfish. Dave had the biggest Snoo...
