Fishing Reports

May 12th, 2012

The tunas are definitely here.  Blackfin tunas in Miami and yellowfin tunas in the Bahamas.  Starting with Miami, the big blackfins have shown up and in big numbers.  For the past week or so we have been averaging 3 to 6 tunas per trip.  The fish are decent in size as well averaging 25 to 35 pounds.  We have been catching most of the balckfin tunas on the kite baits but caught some on the flatlines as well.  Bait was tough for a while, but is now getting a bit...

April 27th, 2012

What a great couple of weeks of fishing.  This has definitely been the best fishing of the year.  The sailfishing has exploded and we have gone almost double digit releases every day.  In the past three days we have caught 40 sailfish out of 55 hookups and then we followed that by going daytime swordfishing the next day and catching 2 big swordfish.  That is some HOT Fishing.   The best sailfish action has been right in front of Miami.  We have had stro...

Sailfish Tournament Win

This weekend we fished the 7th Annual Fisher island Tournament and we have fished this tournament every year since its inception. We have basically fished the tournament with the same group of guys and have had a lot of success in the past. We have won it twice and placed 2nd twice and also a 3rd place finish one year. Last year we got 2nd place and this year we wanted to try to get back on top. Tournaments take a bit of preparation and hard work and this one was no different. I had caught...

Spring is Almost Here Report Date: March 27, 2012 The sailfish action has definitely picked up these past few weeks. We have been averaging from 4 to 8 sailfish per day, but we did have two trips were we hooked sails, but didn’t get them to the boat. Unfortunately one of those days was the first day of the Miami Billfish Tournament. We fished it with Anders from Finland, who fished it with us a couple of years back. Last time we fished that tourney with Anders, we caught 14 or...

Action on the Edge

Report Date: March 10, 2012   We are still averaging between 2 to 5 sailfish per day and that has stayed pretty consistent. Although that is not bad at all, we are still missing those banner double digit release days. We just have to wait for the right conditions to occur and I’m sure it will happen. A lot has happened since my last report and I have fished every day but one since the last report. The one day we didn&...

Monster Sword!

Report Date: February 23, 2012 550 pound Daytime Sword Sailfishing has still been relatively slow. We have been averaging about 2 to 5 sailfish per day and our best day since the last report we caught 6. Not bad, but not what it should be. We did have one trip where we did not catch one. You can probably attribute the lack of cold fronts for the lack of sailfish. Farther north there was a very good bit during January...

The Wait Is Almost Over

Report Date: February 6, 2012   Sorry for the delay in reports. I really try to keep them up to date, but as usual, January turned out to be an extremely busy month. As busy as it has been, I wish the fishing was a little better. It is not bad, but not red hot like it should. We have managed to catch a sailfish on every single trip but one since the last report. Our best day we caught 9 sailfish, but for the most part have...

October 17, 2011 Sword Bite Continues

The good news is that the daytime sword bite is still on fire. We have caught at least one and mostly 2 to 4 swordfish on every single one of our trips. It has been very consistent and most of the fish we have been catching have been by hand cranking all the way from the bottom. We have caught swordfish from 30 pounds up to about 200 pounds. We have also tagged and released quite a few swordfish these past two weeks. For the most part the fish have been a bit on the smaller size but there have...

September 30, 2011 Sword Bite is ON!

The day sword bite is definitely on! Since my last report I have fished every single day with the exception of 2 days. The vast majority of the trips have been swordfish trips, mostly daytime, some nighttime and also some combo trips. I have also done a few trips on the edge. Well the daytime bite has been very good. We caught swordfish on every single one of our trips with the exception of one trip that we got bombarded by rain and thunderstorms. But even that was OK as we had the same client...

July 11, 2011

Things have been a little bit quiet since my last report. I have been fishing but just not as much as I am used to. We did a few dolphin trips in the Gulfstream and the dolphin fishing this year has been very poor especially for bigger fish. Most of the local dolphin tournaments have been won with fish in the 20 to 30 pound range where it usually takes a 40 to 50 pound fish to win. The good news is that even if the dolphin fishing has been slow, we have been coming in to the edge in the aftern...

Hot Weather - Hot Fishing

Sorry for the long delay between reports but I was on vacation for a couple of weeks and when I got back, I only had one trip that week, but luckily this past week I ended up getting 4 trips for the week.       Black Grouper         Fishing on the edge has been very productive. As is usual, during the summer, we have a ton of bonitos. Although they are not good table fare, they are truly great fighting fish. The summer bonitos are usually pr...

Firing On All Cylinders

Report Date: June 18, 2010     The fishing off of Miami has been absolutely excellent. We have been extremely lucky to have everything biting. Typically this time of year, the majority of anglers are in the Gulfstream and looking for dorado. We have done quite a few of these trips and have caught dolphin on every trip. Most of the fish have been schoolies, but a few bigger (30 – 40 pounders) have been caught as well. There is a minimum size which is 20 inches from...
almost 3 years ago (07/22/2009)

July 19th, 2009 This is normally the time of year that we are looking for mahis in the Gulfstream. The dolphin fishing was good in the beginning of June but has really dropped off since then. The good news is that we have been concentrating on either daytime swordfish or fishing on the edge and both have been very good.  I do expect the dolphin fishing to pick back up soon,  just like it did last year. The daytime sword bite has been good. We did have one trip where we didn&rsquo...
