Experience:

Hi, my name is Capt. Mike and I've been fishing Fort Lauderdale since the mid 70's.

I grew up fishing with my family catching mahi mahi, sailfish, wahoos and whatever else would bite the hook, when I was not fishing on my grandfather's boat I was at the pier, or fishing the canal bridges for tarpon, snook and jacks.

My father and grandfather taught me a lot about fishing and boat handling but I always dreamed of working on a big sport fish boat. In 1994 I finally got my break on a local charter boat, living the dream and it only got better. Later that year I got a job on a boat going to the Bahamas where I went to fish the Blue Marlin tournaments in the Bahamas Billfish Championship Series, where I won and placed in many tournaments. I was catching the biggest fish I could dream of. I also fished Costa Rica , St. Thomas and Mexico .

After awhile I got tired of being gone all the time and wanted to settle down so I came back to Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach area where I ran a boat called the Intoxication a few years later I started working on the Hooked Up with Capt. Taco. . Capt. Taco taught me quite a lot especially about the business. He gave me my big break and asked me to go into business with him.

I now own theLocal Knowledge, I have a first class crew and boat and I love what I do.

Call me and let me show you and your guest a great time and catch some FISH!!

Fishing Reports

Tuesday May 8th, 2012

Fort Lauderdale Fishing in May is absolutely awesome. If I only had one month to pick to fish out of the whole year it would be May. For one the winds have laid down leaving us with a light South East wind perfect for kite and shark fishing. The kingfish and bonitas are thick on the reef. The Dolphin (mahi mahi) are more reliable anywhere from the reef to 10 miles off shore. The swordfish are biting and the seas are perfect for day time deep dropping for them or for drifting at night. Amber...

Spring Break Fishing Fort Lauderdale April

Spring Break Fishing Fort Lauderdale April Tuesday April 17th, 2012 Fishing Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Pompano Beach waters this month will prove to be some of the years best fishing. Overall March was pretty good but April so far has been outstanding. On the troll we have been crushing medium size black fin tunas and plenty of dolphin (mahi mahi). Lots of bait around with ballyhoos on the inshore patch reefs and a ton of flying fish offshore. Sailfish are still biting on go...

Giant Swordfish on St. Patty’s Day w/Capt. Mike

Tuesday March 20th, 2012 Fort Lauderdale Swordfishing is normally done 12-17 miles offshore but as we all know there are no fences in the ocean and Ft Lauderdale fishing is always full of surprises! My best friend Chris that I’ve known since I was 4 chartered the boat on St. Patricks Day with his brother Bill, his cousin Scott, good friend Craig and good friend Jim. Since Scott and Craig are from West Virginia and have never been sport fishing on the ocean before we started tr...

Thank The Fish Gods March is Here!

February fishing, while it had some good days, overall was very sloooooow! I know March Fishing Fort Lauderdale is going to be great! it always is. On March 1st our morning trip brought Jeff and Trevor from Michigan and another Jeff from the Poconos. Right off the bat trolling Jeff laid into a respectable 25# wahoo and I was already praising the new month. I think i got a little excited too quick because I couldnt buy another bite after that. We switched up to some kite fishing but had...

Sailfish are still around, mahi mahi, wahoos, kingfish, amberjacks, bonitas and blackfin tunas and SHARKS! We continue to do a lot of kite fishing this month along with putting out the big baits on the 100# tackle for the giant hammerheads, thresher sharks and makos that begin their haunt upon our waters. The weather is still mild with light predomin...

Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Capt. Mike Jan 3-8

Today on their Fort Luaderdale Fishing Trip Dennis and Jim from Wisconsin did some kite fishing in search of Fort Lauderdale greatest gamefish. Fishing had been a little slow the last couple days so we were hoping to get lucky on this short three hour trip. It turned out to be Jim’s lucky day as the sailfish came up and ate the perfectly presented live goggle eye fished out of the kite. We went ahead with the boat as the sailfish went airborne. After a twenty minute see saw battl...

Great Wahoo and Mahi Mahi Action

Fishing Fort Lauderdale today was Great.   We had Brian and Jamie from Boston, here in Fort Lauderdeale for their Honeymoon. Brian must be doing something right to get her to go fishing on their Honeymoon.   We cleared the inlet about 8:15 this morning and put out the trolling spread. It was a little slow to start with just one kingfish for the first hour. A little while later Jamie caught a very small bullet bonita and then Brian caught a big skipjack tuna. I believe Bria...

Hot Mahi Mahi action!!!

We had Bruce and Doug from Iowa, Ron from right here in Pompano Beach, Fl and Wendell from Bonita Springs. We went offshore today first looking for mahi mahi and Blue Marlin. We worked it hard too all the way to the north, but we only jumped off one small mahi. What was killing me was tha...

Tuesday August 2nd, 2011     Day two finds us with Keith and Mike from Tuscon, Kurt from Alberta and Steve and John from Pennsylania.   Fishing started offshore in search of Mahi mahi, marlin, sails or anything that would bite for that matter. We ventured about four miles offshore which off of Bimini puts you in over 2000 feet of water. We found some decent edges and weedlines to fish to but no bites. We eased back up on the reef for the barracuda assault and caught ab...

Hot Summertime Bite in Fort Lauderdale

We then raced out to the ships anchored off of Fort Lauderdale beach and caught a bunch of speedos and blue runners for some wreck fishing. After about 15 minutes we had all we needed. Fort Lauderdeale Sport Fishing 954.522.4773

Today Joe, Danny and Bernie from Fort Lauderdale joined us for some great fort Lauderdale sport fishing. Joe, being a local and long time fisherman wanted to entertain his buddies and wanted some fish for the fryer and BBQ tonight, so we went on pursuit on the "troll". I have to say that the action was non stop all day.   First the bonitas assaulted our baits, while not good eating they provided some action and were good warm up fish for the new guys.   We then g...

954.522.4773 Capt. Mike, Big Fish

Fort Lauderdale Fishing May 1st     What a great day of fishing off Fort Lauderdale today for Mario, Gary, Tom, Rob, Ben and Tony all from south Florida. We started on the troll and crushed the bonitas by putting 20 in the box and releasing some others. We also caught a mahi mahi, a blackfin tuna and a 20# kingfish. The highlight came when we were kitefishing for sail fish and a 150# hammerhead ate the bait instead. Tom worked on the fish for 40 minutes on 20# line before the...

Big Mahi Mahi and Wahoo with Capt. Mike 954.522.4773

Fort Lauderdale Fishing has been off to a great start this month. Some hammerhead sharks and sailfish have been stealing the spotlight right up until the 5th when the blackfin tunas showed up from Palm Beach through Fort Lauderdale all the way past Miami. While most of these tunas were not the 20-30 #’s we are accustomed to seeing later in the spring, the 7-12 # (footballs) were still a lot of fun on the light tackle and great tasting on the table. Agrein and Tina from British Columbia and Ca...

$100/HR Great Fishing with Capt. Mike 954-522-4773

Hey everyone, fishing in Fort Lauderdale remains strong this month with plenty of sailfish stealing the show along with plenty of big sharks, mostly Hammerheads and reports of a couple of Makos as well. However, bad weather up north resulted in multiple canceled flights and trips. So right now you can take advantage of that and book a private charter for up to 6 people for only $100 HR.   We are also seeing good numbers of big amberjacks on the deep and some shallow wrecks, bring a...

Sailfish and Sharks, Mahi and more with Capt. Mike 954.522.4773

Feb 3rd great friend and repeat customer Ryan from CONN came out with us again to do some Fort Lauderdale Fishing. We cleared the inlet that morning and ran south toward Miami, fishing had been picking up that way and we didn't want to miss it.   Once we cleared the buoys we couldn't believe our eyes, as far as you could see were baby man-o-wars. Floating jellyfish that will sting the H%LL out of ya. To the north, south and east all you could see were the floating jellies. We ran o...

Great December Fishing Fort Lauderdale

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011   Fort Lauderdale Fishing   Dec 9 The morning of the ninth brought Greg, Bill, Paul, Howard, Duncan and Andre out with us to try their hand at some Fort Lauderdale Sail Fishing. Into the first hour we had only heard of a couple of sails being...

Great July Fishing with Capt. Mike on the Local Knowledge 954.522.4773

July 2010     June and July are very similar months for Fort Lauderdale in the heat they bring as well as the fish. We are still catching lots of bonitos and kingfish, some mahi mahi, wahoos and sharks. July 1st Jacque from Quebec chartered the Local Knowledge for a morning of Fort Lauderdale sport fishing. Jacque was interested in just bending the rods and catching anything he could since it was his first time fishing in Fort Lauderdale. We began trolling to the south and a...
